I cut scone dough into wedges because it is quick and saves re-rolling the bits leftover from cutting rounds. I think supermarket scones get extra baking powder because you can taste it. Lard makes good light scones.
I have been making rock buns instead of scones.

I love scones. I especially like them toasted in the toaster. I like this recipe and have made 100s of mini ones for parties. https://charlotteslivelykitchen.com/scones/5

Domestic Science lessons were very good at my school. The teaching formed a great foundation for household economy and I have always been very thankful for it.@amber03 - I use self raising flour and baking powder together for scones. It is worth experimenting with different recipes to find one that suits you. If the mixture is too dry then the scones don’t rise well. I agree with @Sarahspangles so I lightly press and pat out the dough rather than use a rolling pin or kneading.Make do - I so enjoy producing a tasty meal from what I have left after the planned meals have been completed. Yesterday was a kind of minestrone soup, using turkey stock made from the drumsticks. It was finished with a large dollop of the pesto that I made a couple of weeks ago. I have a few more ideas based on what I already have in.
Mend - I shortened and hemmed some trousers. Also glued the joints of a chair as they were coming loose.Minimise - I am using the library more rather than buying secondhand books. All my books currently fit on the shelves and I need to keep to that discipline. There are still loads though! Unfortunately, I had to throw away some hazelnuts as they didn’t taste good. I don’t find that they last long even when kept in the fridge. I am working my way through any stored nuts by adding them to baked porridge, yoghurt, or baking. I need to take more notice of best before dates when I buy dried goods; sometimes they aren’t very long at all.7 -
@Cherryfudge - I usually stick to one of two patterns in 4-ply or DK for jumpers and cardigans in a plain stocking stitch (because I know they will fit!) but I adapt them by altering the neckline or sleeve length and sometimes by adding a patterned insert panel to the front or up the sleeves. This one has a V-neck and a pattern insert called Marriage Lines up each sleeve. If I can get my camera set up to my laptop I'll post a pic.
A few years ago I bought a knitting stitches book from the CS - cost £1 or thereabouts - so I can ring the changes. It has 440 patterns for different Knit & Purl, Rib, Cable, Lace and Texture & Colour to use for either the whole garment or just in panels. Add in a choice of colour and I doubt anyone is going to have the same as mine!
When I do scones I don't roll the dough or use a cutter - I just tip the lot onto a floured worktop and cut into however many portions I want, gently roll each portion into a ball, flatten slightly and brush with milk or egg. They're a bit rustic looking but rise well and taste fab! If I need to finish off a pot of plain yogurt I use that in place of the milk.Be kind to others and to yourself too.7 -
I'd love to see a photo, @YorksLass, if you can get it set up.
I'm glad you mentioned scones. Could I use whey in them? I have a litre of it to use up as a batch of yogurt turned out super-thick!
Edited to add: answering my own question here but I found this for leftover whey.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

I did a project for the National Trust, who literally run on scones. This involved a new property and kitchen team - and some departures from normal NT practices. At the ‘test bake’ just before opening, I sat with a senior member of the regional team who looked at the first batch of scones from the new ovens and said “Well, we can do this!” - I then saw absolute horror on her face as the cook sliced the scone downwards through the middle! I’m still laughing about this!Fashion on the Ration

Another bag from DDs room sorted for charity.
I had a rummage through and found 3 brand new items. Unwanted gifts.
They're no use to me but I have a friend with a huge family and Christmas is a big deal to them. So I offered them for regifting and she'll get them tomorrow. The rest will go to charity shop.

Make Do tea tonight was tagliatelle with sliced mushrooms, a slice of shredded ham and topped with a bit of grated cheese. I used a generous dollop of cheese spread to stir through it for the sauce.
Just one item for the CS bag today - a money box with padlock and key.Be kind to others and to yourself too.6 -
Make do - I made the bacon, onion and potato hotpot from The Pauper’s Cookbook. It is an old favourite and used a big chunk of smoked bacon from the freezer. It was from a pack of cooking bacon that didn’t have much in the way of rashers. I minced it first as I thought it might be too chewy and this worked well. It made hefty eating for two nights along with additional vegetables. I still haven’t been shopping but I do have milk delivered. We are having OOD peaches with our yoghurt and our porridge as I found some tins in the camping cupboard.Mend - I had made a garment but not tied off all the threads so I got on and did those. Debobbled a jumper with the little battery shaver. I discovered that my sewing machine has a darning stitch. I am experimenting with ways in which I can use this. Also, I have a couple of pairs of Mr MV’s jeans to repair and have been viewing lots of different ways through online videos. Some of the repairs people do are just amazing.Minimise - Recycled a week’s worth of junk mail. Having failed to manage to unsubscribe from emails that I didn’t subscribe to in the first place, I am now reporting as Spam. This has been more effective. We had a clear out of Mr MV’s wardrobe shelves. Binned some ancient workwear fleeces, created a large pile of mending for me and an unused tee shirt for the CS. I threw out two pairs of old fleecy socks of mine that had gone rather horrible. Two new pairs of thermal socks replaced them though.9

Yesterday's.
Make do - couldn't get chopped blanched almonds for Christmas pudding so I'm using flaked that we already had in the cupboard.
Mend - nothing.
Minimise - used up some odds and ends of flour in the Christmas cake, as well as ground almonds. Gave myself a hair cut! Threw out a turkey baster that had split and set a cake tin aside for donation.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)
