Our maths teacher set us a brilliant homework for the summer holidays in my last year. We had to buy a house with a mortgage, working out repayments etc. then we had to carpet it and buy curtains and furniture all on a budget. Really taught me a lot about comparing costs and credit. He really was an exceptional teacher though.Saving 1 animal wont change the world - but it will change the world for that 1 animal

Managed to minimise some of my fabric stash - I could have been more ruthless, tbh, but a good quarter of it is going to the charity shop as whole pieces or rags. still have 6 bags of cloth to freeze (clothes moths 😱)
Also minimised leftover chicken and veg into a pasta bake for tonight.2024 Fashion on the Ration - 10/66 coupons used

My fabric stash brings me joy. I repacked it recently and put pretty much everything back all tidy. My husband gets it and just smiled at my pleasure looking at it. One of my favourite things to do was to go through the remnants section at John Lewis. Sadly our John Lewis shut. No more remnants. I recently made some bunting for our camper van with some scraps and a bit of bias binding.8

I do like all this reminiscing about cookery lessons - I don't think I learned a huge amount from them, or from needlework, though I still have the cookery tabard we made in black gingham. When I started it, it nearly reached the floor but now it's above my knees so must have been a tiny eleven-year-old. I'm only just over 5' now.
I've minimised some activity bags back to the store at church now my group has done those sessions, but I've not mended anything today. As for making do, this isn't really making do but I got a very old hoodie out of semi-retirement for a walk this afternoon and realised it fits well as I lost a couple of pounds. So it's back in circulation, and very snug it is too.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

Minimise:
The old paperwork I sorted the other day has been shredded and binned.
A rickety dining chair and equally rickety wooden storage box have gone to the tip.
Dead pot plant binned. It was nice while it lasted!
Make Do:
Finished off the leftover chicken curry from Saturday for tea last night.
Fruit scones made and some frozen.
Mend:
In the process of sewing up a knitted jumper that's been waiting for far too long.Be kind to others and to yourself too.8 -

I read somewhere that leaving the uncooked scones in a cool place/the fridge overnight made them lighter. I think it was because the baking powder had time to interact with the acid in the buttermilk/yogurt/whatever.
Don't know if that's right though...A budget is like a speed sign - a LIMIT not a TARGET!!

Try using SR flour and minimal handling of the dough - and if the recipe says it makes 12 scones, make the same quantity of dough into six, not too wide but nice and deep.
I'm sure the trend for enormous scones is a fashion as older recipes taste nice but the results are small and yes, I compensate by putting double the quantity into each scone...
@YorksLass, that chicken gets more impressive every time I read about it! Well done on sewing up your jumper too. It will be worth it. What's the pattern like?I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)
