Hired from them more than ten times and never had an issue.  There would always be someone in the return queue who had somehow managed to 'lose their parcel shelf' or something equally stupid.

You say tyres worn - how many miles on the clock?

Definitely be present when handing back... remember that you are paying cheap rates because they use minimum wage employees and got cheap rates from the importer who will be billing them at full whack for every imperfection on the car's eventual return.

They are being run as a business, not as a gentleman's club for car enthusiasts - so tight cost control around damage will be essential to their very survival.  That means charging the customer at full rate whenever damage occurs, but then doing the minimum repair possible to keep the car on the road because a car off the road is losing money.

The undertray was either damaged by poor servicing technique or another 'careful' hirer.  Mileage on collection may give a clue.

So next time... you can never take enough photos on collection because mistakes do happen and you need to stay one step ahead to avoid any doubt.  Especially include tyres, underside, roof and windscreen from multiple angles.
Little known fact that you can get your own quotes for any damage they bill you for, before they try to fix it & use that garage to fix it...

But that could take weeks if you need to book it in at a reputable body shop, and you'd be paying rental on the car all that time.
& you don't think that is what they do?

In the mean time they are still renting the car out & charging the other person, often with no intention of fixing the car.
