I found four 25g balls of pumpkin orange 4ply wool which had been donated to the fund raising shop. £2 and no coupons.

I think I've made socks with the same yarn as the far left (Robin WYS, I think) and the top right.😀 They all look great to me.

I have used that exact yarn.  Bought it in L!dl in December 2012 (so Ravelry tells me). I bought enough to knit a jumper with the blue and multiple pairs of socks with the multi-coloured yarn.   It softens up nicely and wears well.

Pip, that would probably fit with where and when I bought it in France.  I did wonder if it would soften up.  I bought the pink colourway as well which I used to crochet a shawl.
I started on the Winwick Mum pattern last night - not used DPN's before so lots of juggling going on. 🤣
It's been about 30 years since I did any real knitting but thankfully there is some residual memory.  This might take some time though!

I came across some more vintage linen handkerchiefs at my favourite online store. They are a good size, 18 inches, with pre-war wide hems. They were £7 for 6, a bargain. No coupons and none of the new Purchase Tax. They will be useful for Christmas presents. I must get on with my knitted loop scarf, and the traditional tea cosy.  

I do enjoy listening to a book being read while I am knitting. The Maisie Dobbs books by Jacqueline Winspear are very good. I have her first books from the library.

Another no-coupon spend: a 100% cashmere jumper in a pop-up charity shop for £2! Today I've carefully washed it, squeezed out excess water in a bath towel and laid it on another towel to dry. It will need to be de-bobbled and there's a tiny hole in one sleeve which doesn't seem to have pulled at all. I think I can put that right with a smidgeon of embroidery thread but I will have to buy some to match.

A bargain, @Cherryfudge - I never seem to find those sort of things. The one I did find last year turned out to be too low in the neckline.  

Halfway through some sewing yesterday, my machine gave up the ghost.  It’s been dodgy for a little while, so it’s time I booked it in somewhere for an overhaul.  Meanwhile, it may be over 100 years old, but my grandmother’s sewing machine has been hauled out and proved yet again that it’s worth keeping.

It's very rare I find anything like that, @PollyWollyDoodle. Over many years this is the fourth cashmere item I've found. There were two M&S cashmere mix jumpers at a jumble sale for I think 10p each, then some months ago a cashmere sweater in mint green which is slightly stained though I've got a lot of the stain out. I forget how much it was, but I don't think I'll ever wear it. If I return to the fray and attack the stains often enough to get them out, it will be given or donated as, having lost weight, I still think it looks too small for me.

I love the look of your old machine: my wedding dress was made (by my sister) on Mum's old treadle machine: beautifully strong even stitches.

Hi all, Just reporting in from the Borrow's Novice Knitters Club.  My lessons in un-knitting are progressing well. 🤣 
I've managed, after a couple of attempts, to turn the heel and am currently halfway along the gusset.  I'm already looking forward to the challenge of making a sock that matches this one! 🤣🤣
