Another one who dreams of a gardener, my garden is too big to manage although my dog helps by digging up what I plantMade it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became
In the event the proverbial hits the fan then co-habitees are better stashing their cash than being mortgage free !!1 -
Sounds like everything is moving forward well. The advisor sounds terrible though at the job centre! Has your OH thought of upskilling in project mgt with maybe some data anaysis courses etc? Udemy has some v cheap good onesDON'T BUY STUFF (from Frugalwoods)
No seriously, just don’t buy things. 99% of our success with our savings rate is attributed to the fact that we don’t buy things... You can and should take advantage of discounts.... But at the end of the day, the only way to truly save money is to not buy stuff. Money doesn’t walk out of your wallet on its own accord.

News!! We have finally exchanged contracts and have a completion date of 18 November. I am still working my notice period of 8 weeks and have a leaving date of 22 Nov. Boss has said take a laptop and WFH the last week, which is good in principle but I don't know if I'll have wifi - he said to do my best.....
Removals firm are coming on 15 Nov to take all garden/shed/garage/loft stuff in a big van to their secure depot. They will then come on 18 Nov with another big van for all the other bits. I have some items of furniture on FBMP - someone coming tomorrow about a bed frame but no takers on the kitchen bar stools yet.
We have a few boxes but need to source some either from the removal firm (£2/box + VAT) or from a storage facility nearby, whichever is cheaper. I'm going to research that today. We have two weekends before we go and have nothing planned but packing, plus DH is obviously here during the day to crack on with stuff.
I'm not sleeping too well - meno hot flushes aren't helping along with house move anxiety (sorry if TMI). We still need to tell our NDN that we are moving, might pop round today and let him know.
Our budgets are looking okay for this month. Food and diesel pots still on target - may even be a bit under on food if we're lucky. I've been running down the cupboards and freezer in preparation for the move. Freezer will need defrosting (it's built-in) before we go - another job to add to the list!

Oh wow, congratulations! 🎉🎉🎉 Lots of lists used to help me get the stay awake things out of my head. Unfortunately turning the light on to record them was a lead balloon moment for DH so my pad and paper were in the bathroom. I blame this for my early rising. 04.22 wake-up, every morning (05.22 in BST) - unless I am drunk or drugged (not illegally!)Save £12k in 2025 #2 I am at £4863.32 out of £6000 after May (81.05%)

Hi all,
Thank you for the congrats. It’s a bit overwhelming but I know it’s the right thing for us to do. More excited and a bit less anxious now which is good!
We’ve had an estimated completion statement from our solicitor. Estimated because we will make another mortgage payment prior to completion. All looks good and on plan.
We collected 60 boxes from the removals firm on Wednesday. They are ‘used once’ and perfectly fine and were only £1 each with all proceeds going to charity - win win. DH managed to pack 7 boxes yesterday and I did 2 after work. Tonight I’m going to tackle the spare room and get that packed up. We will need more boxes but couldn’t fit any more in the car, so DH will go and collect more next week and combine it with a CS drop off.
The FBMP bed purchaser let us down on Wednesday, so someone else is allegedly coming tomorrow late morning. DH has dismantled it in readiness and as he’s already beaten us down to £80 I’m not taking a penny less! A lady is coming around about now for a hallway stand, so that’s another £15 in the kitty.
I am packing the spare room tonight. It’s mainly my craft stuff, handbags(!) and some Ebay items that I’m listing in aid of my charity fundraising. Most things are in two chest of drawers, so once they are clear they will go to the CS.
Tomorrow we will finish off in the loft. We’ve sorted about 60% of items into Keep/CS/Tip, so just need to finish this off. Then it’ll be a case of boxing it all up and bringing downstairs into the spare room which will act as a store room until we go.
DH is nervous about packing our ‘good’ china and glasses, some of which were wedding gifts, so I’ll do those tomorrow whilst watching SCD! Our bedroom is fairly easy with just two bedside units and the bathrooms won’t take long. DS2 is back from uni this week and has sorted his room, so just needs to pack it up. DD will do hers this weekend too.
Have started taking Black Cokosh supplements for my hot flushes. Some small improvements but still waking up a few times. Will see how I feel after the 30 day course.

Garden furniture, BBQ, and pots need sorting tomorrow. There are a couple of items to take to the tip and some plants to lift now they’re finished. Will bring everything up to the patio for first collection on Friday. We’ve run out of boxes already and still the good china, kitchen and DD’s room to do aaaargh. Takeaway for dinner as been packing all day and we are pooped!Cross-stitch WIP: Fiver Friday challenge 2025 founding member 😊 Read 25 books in 2025 11/25 Currently reading The Cliff House by Amanda Jennings1
