    What's a share machine ?
Employees used the machine to purchase shares for the general public. It went a long time ago
That probably means that NatWest was the broker. NatWest should have a record somewhere.

For this to be a worthwhile exercise (offsetting a sizeable capital gain), then presumably the sum of money used to buy the shares was considerable, so there should be some record of it?
    Thanks for your reply Masonic.

The loss is considerable. I have ordered bank statements for 2007/08 so should be able to see the transaction and take it from there.
