Will advice and recommendations

After a stressful few months sorting mother in laws estate and probate, and now a sudden death in my extended family that we’ll be helping to sort, my partner and I have realised we should get wills written up.
A colleague of mine used the Unite union will writing service and said it was fairly basic but straightforward, but we are both open to recommendations.
I know mother in law had several visits at home to update her will 2 1/2 years ago (she passed in April this year) and the cost started to spiral, but equally I’m not sure a cheap DIY one from online or WHSmiths/wherever is suffice?

You say partner, but what is your marital status?1

check out the details for getting free wills in exchange for a donation to a charity (so not really free but cheaper than some services available)

You might also like to consider your marital status if either or both of you have assets exceeding £325k The last think you want after loosing a long term partner is to find their estate owes a large amount of IHT and you end up having to sell your home to pay it. Spousal exemption is also available to civil partners.1
