I've dropped to four days per week from this week with next March as the big "R" 😃 when i'll be 58 years and 7 months.

The older I get I'm rapidly  appreciating that, whilst we worry and discuss here the financial consequences of retirement, which is not surprising since this is a financial chat group, maybe we ought to be more concerned with our health and well-being considerations of doing jobs we may not like in a shrinking number of days we all have on this mortal coil.  Time and family is the most precious gift we have
I’m so pleased for you, I hope this helps you achieve an improved work/life balance

    I couldn’t agree more

I once read somewhere that if you are 60, assuming you’ll live to 80, then every extra year you work is 5% of the life you have remaining…

Six months until my theoretical date. It shouldn’t be difficult to push the button but it is….. I need to sit myself down and have a word.

I keep oscillating even though I've applied for vol redundancy.  Good day in the office, good interactions with colleagues and it can make you wonder if you are doing the right thing.  Then some carp hits, you remember the stresses and strains, the other things you could be doing, and the fact that you are not getting any younger.  The fear of the unknown is real but I am still (mostly) determined to leap.  Come with me lol!
I’ll have to post my updated numbers at the weekend. On any kind of practical level it’s a no brainer, I’ve told a few chums and they say ‘but what will you do?’  That doesn’t worry me. My overly conservative self says I’m throwing away my peak earning and saving years, but I’m sure I’ve got enough. I’m 80/20 gonna do it, I’m may let them know early so I can handover over the next six months. I feel a little guilty that I’m not fully on it work wise. (I’ve had this whinge in here a few times so sorry for the repetition)

One of my colleagues says there is a level of disbelief I’m actually going! I’m also ‘not fully on it’. I did catch myself thinking in a meeting ‘I could help them fix that [patient] pathway’, but I know someone else will. Plus I woke up with a cold, and it’s only two weeks since the last one. I just don’t have the resilience any more. Hopefully retirement will help with that - less stress, more exercise and sunlight,

I wouldn't feel guilty. The way I look at it....I've done my time, worked 12 hour+ days and nights, saved the business millions and definitely earnt my money over 40 years of grafting. I'm fully winding down...zero stress, ticking boxes, taking the pay cheque. I feel even less guilty when I know and see some people on six figure salaries stealing a living.

The worry I have is that because it is so easy, it makes it harder to jack it in, so need a robust routine for when I do. We can all do "one more year".

Nobody noticed so I think I should be offended. 😂😂😂
