for many the risk of being forced to take your contractual notice would be too high I think. Unless you’re already way past your number and the timing is whatever. Even then I think I’d be annoyed by having my timing messed up if the company went ‘oh we found a replacement you can !!!!!! off now thanks’

Thanks - I have thought about it, but there's a possibility (very slim one) that my role may be made redundant, whilst this is a possibility I don't want to let the cat out of the bag. The other is that if they do decide to replace me, I'll end up being sidelined and even more bored! I think I'll just live with the current malaise and keep ticking the days off.

I've got 2 weeks after today and time is indeed dragging…

I'm deliberately taking a back seat on my main project work as I'd rather my successors took the lead before I go so I'm still around to help with any queries.

I'm also finding it increasingly difficult to be patient with people who won't think for themselves, but biting my lip. At least I hope they are being lazy rather than inept, or they'll be a bit stuck in a couple of weeks.

Oh @frankfish, I feel for you. I’m sorry for what you have been through with your son, but you are absolutely right in that there is so much more to life than work.

@Ebeneezer9 @HUSKYPAL I am planning to leave end March next year, like you I haven’t told anyone and sitting there thinking, I won’t be around for this but still have to do etc. I’m on six months notice and so planning timings, holiday and lieu days left etc. plus work with projects so there’s a stretch out there.

@Apricota I was also on 6 months notice when I put my notice in at the end of March. Since that time I have gradually largely mentally checked out from the internal politics and general day to day drama. I have remained engaged in the external elements of my role as I have some professional pride but I don't tick internal boxes that I regard as a waste of time. Happily the end is near for me as my retirement date has been broufht forward to 31 July! Can't wait! Maybe you could float the idea of leaving earlier and see what the response is?
