Congratulations MetaPhysical and Mrs GenX!
Its's an open secret in my office that I'll be leaving in the spring, but since I only need to give one month's notice I'm being coy about exactly when 🙂katejo said:I had a little chat with my line manager just today ... Frequently heard in our household:Haha, yes indeed. I know some other folks giving up before Christmas too. So the New Year starts with me retired, with the dark nights and cold in January and February so maybe not the best time but I can't stand any more workplace toxicity, corporate dictats and BS. For my own sanity I need to leave. It could also be argued it is a good time with the freezing weather, frosts and traffic mayhem. I no longer need to deal with any of that crap and can dedicate a few months toward getting my house and garden tiptop ready to sell it so I can move in with my fiancee before we get married. I think I will put my feet up for the first two weeks of January and do absolutely nothing, after 42 years of unbroken employment I think I can say I deserve it! Some cycling and gym (in daytime in what would have been work hours!
) and focus on me and my own fitness, welfare and things that matter to me and not work sh**.
“What day is it?”
Or whenever we’re walking, cycling, cooking, gardening, doing anything “It’s not work!”Appreciate we’re very lucky to be in this position.6 -
I also only need to give a month's notice but I don't want to give her a shock. We are in good terms 🙂QrizB said:Congratulations MetaPhysical and Mrs GenX!

And listening to the sound of ice being scraped from car windows in the morning whilst supping tea in bed is amazingly therapeutic.kipsterno1 said:Congratulations, I presume this week will involve some long lunch breaks and a raid on the stationary cupboard. You can never have enough Post-It notes.
People often ask when the best time of the year is to retire. I think anytime has its own unique moments. Yours will be thinking of the rush hour mayhem as people return to work after Christmas while you sit and have a leisurely breakfast.6 -
People know I will probably finish soon but I am only 56 and get quite annoyed when asked. My response is "before state pension age". After over 30 years I owe my company absolutely nothing and the first letter they will get is a business case to demonstrate how my role doesn't exist anymore, with a 13 month payback. When that is (likely) rejected, my notice will go in. If you don't ask etc....I too get on well with the AD. Genuinely still not sure when to go, sometimes I could go now, at other times I consider reducing my hours or doing another year or two.katejo said:

Although there is zero chance my role will be replaced, it is because I've created an autonomous department which has been shrinking for some time. I'm fortunate to have such a role but not the most fulfilling and too long in the tooth (and too cynical!) to chase new work challenges.2 -
You can get an EV for the same experiencebjorn_toby_wilde said:

So a VERs scheme was announced today - thought I had the best Christmas present ever, our section can't apply as we 'too valuable and critical to requirements'. So totally fed up.3
