I think the quote "bad weather on holiday is better than a sunny day in the office" also works for retirement.10

No regrets at all. 12 -
Congratulations, I presume this week will involve some long lunch breaks and a raid on the stationary cupboard. You can never have enough Post-It notes.
People often ask when the best time of the year is to retire. I think anytime has its own unique moments. Yours will be thinking of the rush hour mayhem as people return to work after Christmas while you sit and have a leisurely breakfast.5 -
Haha, yes indeed. I know some other folks giving up before Christmas too. So the New Year starts with me retired, with the dark nights and cold in January and February so maybe not the best time but I can't stand any more workplace toxicity, corporate dictats and BS. For my own sanity I need to leave. It could also be argued it is a good time with the freezing weather, frosts and traffic mayhem. I no longer need to deal with any of that crap and can dedicate a few months toward getting my house and garden tiptop ready to sell it so I can move in with my fiancee before we get married. I think I will put my feet up for the first two weeks of January and do absolutely nothing, after 42 years of unbroken employment I think I can say I deserve it! Some cycling and gym (in daytime in what would have been work hours!kipsterno1 said:Congratulations, I presume this week will involve some long lunch breaks and a raid on the stationary cupboard. ) and focus on me and my own fitness, welfare and things that matter to me and not work sh**. 11 -
I finished work this time last year, at first thinking it wasn't the best time to stop. What it did do though was force me to relax and unwind and spend a period of time doing nothing. I would have to admit this was my second time stopping work, the first time a couple of years prior, we went straight into a holiday, and with no time to unwind beforehand I just found it exhausting. Like you, that first time leaving was from what had become quite a toxic culture, and it took me a couple of months before I had really switched off and relaxed.MetaPhysical said:

I had a little chat with my line manager just today after hearing about 2 colleagues who are definitely finishing at the end of January. She knows that I am likely to go in the spring.0
