Incorrect payee name on a cheque

It's interesting that every account I've opened (there's quite a few) has asked for a title, and it's a mandatory input, and yet any payment instruction I make only requires Firstname Lastname. Wonder what it's for?General_Grant said:A title is not part of a name, is it? (Except in the name of a pub perhaps.)1 -
I am the executor of my brother's will and this is a tax rebate payable to me.Regards

You will be surprised what a bank will actually accept. Many years ago it was acceptable to use secondname lastname. One of my accounts still issues a card in that formula despite the fact that they know my firstname etc. They always accept through an ATM but occasionally will not over the counter.

Regarding the suggestions to pay in via app/machine, it gets over the possibility of an immediate refusal at a counter, but if it is picked up later on in the process and refused, the bank will charge a returned cheque fee, won’t they? Depends whether that risk is worth it to possibly avoid having to deal with HMRC at this time to get the cheque re-issued.0

Take it to the bank in person with ID, but as an added precaution wear a long wig, lipstick and a dress.
Mr Generous - Landlord for more than 10 years. Generous? - Possibly but sarcastic more likely.4 -
If it is just the title then I really can;t see that it is a problem. My accounts are in the name of Dr H.
But I successfully pay things in that have no title or are made out to Mrs H (not me), Miss H (long time ago and I never became a surgeon) or Ms H (OK that is just about right) - I get the feeling that if the names are about right they accept it1 -
That's a great tip but do you think my beard would be a distraction?Mr.Generous said:Take it to the bank in person with ID, but as an added precaution wear a long wig, lipstick and a dress.0 -
no won't be a problem at all - they will be going crazy to avoid offending you by querying the cheque so you could pay in just about anythingboingy said:

In a 'woke' 21st century it would be a brave bank clerk that would dare challenge someone over their chosen pronouns or salutation.I don't care about your first world problems; I have enough of my own!5

You misspelled "courteous and respectful" thereIvanOpinion said:In a 'woke' 21st century it would be a brave bank clerk that would dare challenge someone over their chosen pronouns or salutation.
Bank staff wouldn't challenge it because there is no need to, staff are rightly trained to not upset peopleSam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:
People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.
