RumRat - I'll take a look at that after work tonight.

400ixl - the annoying thing about other Androids is with Apple there's tons of accessories & things just fit. Same with Samsung because it's the big name. Once you get outside of those it becomes a struggle.

One example - I don't have anything other than a Mous case. They don't cater for too many brands though.
Cases are ten a penny for most brands, including Samsung, but, as you say most Samsung and Apple have more branded accessories. But, all the others will connect or fit them, such as chargers, earphones/Buds etc.
That's the glory of the 3rd party market.

I've not had any issues with accessories not fitting my previous Samsung and current Pixel phones. I tend to go for Spigen cases, no issues with quality or fit.

I note that Mous do cases for Pixels too.

With iPhone there's a feature in the settings that will tell you your battery health/life in percentage. I'm not talking about charge until it runs out that day.

When I was an iPhone user I always found it represented my experience pretty accurately.

Is there a feature on Android I've missed without the need to install a 3rd party app?

Also with iPhone I could go to an Apple store or Apple approved store & say I'd like a new battery in this phone, hand over the money and job done.

How do you go about getting a new battery in a Samsung without visiting a side street in the town centre?
With the Samsung's/android phones it can be less about the battery, and more about the security updates.

They do come rather frequently on my S21, it must be said.  I even got one on my old S6 earlier this year, which was a surprise as I thought it would be well out of support by now.

Some Android phones (mainly Google and Samsung) now have support which is up with what Apple provide on the iPhone. This is possible now that Google have separated all of the crapware side out of the core base allowing the providers to do what they want without compromising the core system. They still have more to do but good progress has been made.

With the Pixel phones, the 6/7's are at least 5 years and as of the 8 it is at least 7 years. Samsung is similar for phones from 2019 on 4 years and ones released in 2021 onwards getting 5 years. Don't believe they have followed Google in going to 7 years yet.

There has been the odd update for older phones where there has been an absolutely critical exploit seen being exploited. It really has to be serious though for that to happen. It does not mean that it is safe to use any phone out of security updates on the internet. Calls only can be considered safe, even SMS will be compromised.

Fairphone are guaranteeing OS, software, and security updates to 2031 on the fairphone 5.

When I went for my Pixel recently it was a toss up between that, and the fairphone 5 - the fairphone definitely wins on user repairability, and is a bit cheaper, but I wanted a better camera and a slightly speedier chip.

I change the phone every 2 or 3 years so not really interested in how long they support it as long as it performs well while I have it.
I guess the thread has turned into an advert for whichever phone a poster has and considers best. 🙄
