Android (Samsung) battery

When I was an iPhone user I always found it represented my experience pretty accurately.
Is there a feature on Android I've missed without the need to install a 3rd party app?
Also with iPhone I could go to an Apple store or Apple approved store & say I'd like a new battery in this phone, hand over the money and job done.
How do you go about getting a new battery in a Samsung without visiting a side street in the town centre?
If you set it to carry out all diagnostics then it takes a while and needs your involvement, so make sure you have some time to spare....
For repairs you can book through Samsung for an authorised repair to be carried out. Or, if you have a phone that's included you can use the self repair programme. l wouldn't recommend that though unless you were very handy. Also it's not much
cheaper than going the authorised repairer route. The reason it's so expensive is the use of genuine parts. if you go to your local repair shop they probably won't use a genuine Samsung battery for instance.
Hope that helps.

Capacity 4000 mAh (typical) <--- that's them saying typical not me.0 -
Doesn't sound like to bad a charging routine and by the sounds of it you are using the Samsung feature to stop charging at 85%.
The S20 has a minimum battery specification of 3880 mAh advertised as a 4000 mAh battery. So actually looks like Accubattery has it right.
How old is the phone, to have lost nearly a 3rd of the capacity is quite a bit (although that may change as Accubattery gets more accurate). The S20 came out in April 2020 so has reached the end of the number of Android releases (3) it was guaranteed and will be nearing the years (4) of security updates it was to receive. Something to consider if thinking of replacing the battery.
As you say, how quickly it runs down depends on the individual, the apps and the phone they use.0 -
B0bbyEwing said:@400ixl - I've installed AccuBattery. It says my Design capacity is 3,880.0 mAh, the Estimated capacity is 2,899.0 mAh.
Yet according to Wikipedia, my battery is 4,000 mAh.
Apparently I can edit it but I'm more curious why it's saying the design is 3,880. I suppose it's close but surely it should be able to pull accurate info?
@RumRat - do you have any trouble with Accidental Touch Protection? I'm having an absolute nightmare with it lately.
When I finish work I like to stick on Waze or Google Maps, just in case there's any nasty surprises on the way home.
I couldn't get in to my phone tonight because of it. Slide up was a non starter. It just wouldn't do a thing no matter how much I did it. It was only once I got home in better lighting was I able to get in to my phone via face unlock.
I know there's a lot of people that suffer with this. Early on in my Android journey (Galaxy S10) I had no problems at all. I was running either version 10 or 11. Then it upgraded to the next one & that's when all the trouble started.
If it's really bad, you can turn it off in Settings - Display.

Yeah the (lack of) updates is one of the annoying things about Android. Even still, I don't think I would go back to Apple at this moment in time.
I've been eyeing the S23 but this phone works. Sure I'm not convinced by the battery but in most situations I'm not running out of juice.
The weekend just gone was a surprise & I'd have to see if it happened again on a long ride. If I'm doing anything where battery is important - say an x-hours hike or being out & about all day knowing I'm going to be using Google Maps on the go like I was the other week then I take a power bank with me anyway. Usually it's not needed although some times we've had to use it.
It's a bit bulky for cycling though so if it proves to be an issue (when cycling) then I'll have to look at another solution. A slim power bank maybe to fit in the back pocket.RumRat said:B0bbyEwing said:@400ixl - I've installed AccuBattery. It says my Design capacity is 3,880.0 mAh, the Estimated capacity is 2,899.0 mAh.

I did press the side button which made the screen blank, I pressed it again which woke the screen up but when I went to open it it would trigger ATP again. I couldn't even reset it because ATP was triggered once again.
I've turned it off but then I have issues at the other end - pocket dialling.
I was walking back from town one day & wondered what these voices were that I could hear. Turned out I'd phoned the police. The other week I'm getting a phone call off my mother at work. I answered wondering what on earth was the matter to then have her asking me what I wanted.
What do you mean what do I want? You've called me.
Yeah but you called me she said.
So that's when I had enough of this pocket dialling & turned ATP back on. I'd rather struggle getting in to my phone than be phoning everyone when I shouldn't be.
Just to note - I did notice the pocket dialling was worse when clothing was wet. Say I'd walked back in the rain or my works jacket was soaking & had got through to the inside.0 -
Accibattery needs you to drop the battery charge below 15% and fully charge it several times to give you an accurate battery capacity etc
I use accubattery and found it to be very good and pretty accurate0 -

Turn off 'Tap to wake'
Have you got If the 'Touch sensitivity' in settings - display is switched on try turning it off to see if that calms it down.
Failing all that....Grab a S23 FE while it's down in price....

Alternatively grab a Pixel phone and get rid of Samsung altogether and get a UI that is native to the OS.0

RumRat - I'll take a look at that after work tonight.
400ixl - the annoying thing about other Androids is with Apple there's tons of accessories & things just fit. Same with Samsung because it's the big name. Once you get outside of those it becomes a struggle.
One example - I don't have anything other than a Mous case. They don't cater for too many brands though.0 -

They have you covered. Most cover the Google Pixel phones.0 -

That's the glory of the 3rd party market.
