Im totally bemused.
I bought a 55 inch Samsung T.V
A Samsung Selection of some fair free channels come with it.Some of the channels come with adverts (fair enough) some have an annoying "we'll be back" screen...some come with both.
its the "we'll be back" screen I cant get my head around. What is the point of it?? Surely that is missed advertising revenue.Invariably. I change channels when its on.Could somebody explain the rationale behind this screen.I just dont get it ??

If you mean things like where BBC Three says they're back at 7pm, that's normal.Various channels timeshare on Freeview with others - there's a list of what shares with who and when here: https://www.xhxf.uk/timeshares/

‘Freevee’ , on Amazon has breaks like this , but you can only speculate the reason for them , TBH , the ‘adverts’ are for other programs on these channels rather than regular adverts for products to buy , so in that respect there is no difference between an advert for a show on the channel or a ‘we will be right back’ message.
These messages will probably something to do with timings, if the original show was made for commercial TV , it will be something like a 30 minute show is actually 22 minutes long but designed with 8 minutes of paid for TV advertising , if there are no adverts breaks , and these channels play the 22 minute shows back to back then the schedule will be off , messing up start times of episodes , they still want them to start at ‘normal’ start times (for example) 8.00, 8.30, 9.00, 9.30 , not 8 , 8.22, 8.44, 9.06 etc.1 -
There's a streaming service called Viaplay. It's pretty niche in the UK market (it has about 2M subscribers across Europe) but will be known to people who want to watch top flight rugby other than the English Premiership.
The ad breaks are pretty sad, about 50% low-rent consumer finance deals and power tool ads, the other half is previews/promos for its own channels.
Point being that a paid-for streaming service with a decent number/demographic of viewers cannot find enough advertisers to fill the gaps between egg-chasing. A freebie TV service that comes with Samsung products (my phone had this too until I deleted it) has got next to no chance of getting anyone to pay to fill those gaps.
Maybe this is untrue in other World markets where Samsung flog their tellys.1 -
If they just had a blank screen rather than back soon then people would assume the channel is not working and may not come back to it. It is often used as a placeholder until the scheduled start of the next programme where they aren't showing ads in that gap. Sometimes having ads can be more expensive than not.1

Well ...I would have been all night trying to work that one out...Thanks to you all.
It seems ludicrous that the period of time this screen is on cannot be turned into a way of raising revenue|?0 -
Can I also add that despite the tv giving an excellent picture and being neatly hung on the wall I would have settled for the previous Freeview Arrangement I had at my old place (I have moved ...there is no Terrestrial Ariel at my new place)
My viewing now is Americanised Cumbersome and requires the assistance of Stephen Hawkins to navigate around the channels.I do not like at all!!!1
