Hi
I'm currently with TalkTalk FTTP and my contract ends on 24th January. I'm looking to switch to Vodafone FTTP (cheap and cheerful and been with them before with no problems). I've just realised I'm away with work 24-25th January. Am I ok to book new service install/switchover for the 23rd or will TT try to charge me for cancelling contract early (even though it's only 1 day early?). I'm assuming it will be ok, but thought I'll better ask! Thanks.

Did you give talktalk 30 days notice
Have you spoken to their retention department as that seems the only way you can leave0 -
Oh, I haven't spoken to them, normally just book the switch for the day when contract ends and it happens automatically? (Like with mobiles and porting numbers ?)
eeks. I'll try to speak to them tomorrow. Thanks.

LOL nothing like mobiles at all
Read your terms and conditions and you will find talktalk require 30 days notice wherever you are in your contract
You will be either transferred to or have to call seperately the retention department when you action moving home
I have been with talk talk for years and going to move in everyone of them until that is they give me an offer I can't refuse
Good luck1 -
I was with BT FTTP and went to VF a couple of years ago. I just contacted VF, filled in the form on line, booked a date and let them get on with it.
A day or two before the appointed date, a shiny new VF router came through the door. I changed the SSID and password to be the same as the BT router. On the appointed day, we got up and the BT router had been disconnected. (indicated by the appropriate lights). I pulled all the cables out of the BT router (including the phone) and poked them into the VF router.
Powered it up and everything worked, including the phone. No hassle, no drama and no contact with BT.Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers0 -
You don't speak to TalkTalk, you would only get their lousy by the script responses anyway.
You sign up with the new supplier and they contact TalkTalk, usually about 14 days before your contract minimum term ends. If you are going with Vodafone, are you expecting to take your landline number with you?
Moving between two of the worst known providers for service and transfer, wishing you luck it all goes wel.2 -
I don't have a landline number with TT. So just the broadband.
Luckily I never had any problems with TT or VF. Am I pushing my luck? Probably. But it's all about the savings
TT FTTP has been great, had BT FTTP before TT. No difference in service, speeds tiny bit faster than BT (BT capped at 900, TT was actually going up to 930/940). I'm dropping down to 500 with VF. With the Q cashback, it's working out just short of £27/month (Openreach only area). Doubt TT retention will match that.
I'll try to give TT a ring tomorrow and order VF service.

There has been some incorrect advice offered, once you have decided to change your ISP , ( but you will be remaining on the Openreach network ) , the absolute worse thing you can do is contact the ISP you are leaving yourself , as that could leave you with a break in service if TT’s interpretation of your call is a request to cease your service, they raise an order that stops VF raising a takeover, resulting in a gap while the TT cessation works it way through the system, then a wait ( the lead time ) for the VF order to be actioned.
The 30 day notice only applies if you are leaving the Openreach network completely, if it’s a migration you leave it to the new ISP and it’s 10-14 days notice not 30 , but obviously to avoid early termination charges that 10-14 days should also be the last days of the minimum term.
TBH , a day or two early or a day or two late are going to be insignificant , probably a couple of ££ at most , the chances are you will pay TT for a month and then have the majority of that month refunded , after VF has started their service.2 -
Phoned them today and staying with TT.
18 months, 900Mbps, £38pm, £100 voucher and 2 Eeros Pro (already have 3 in my house). Worked out £25.77/month (after flogging Eeros on eBay at £60 each, 1 sold there today at £81) which isn't bad in Openreach only area. VF was going to be £27 for 500Mbps (incl Quidco cashback). Had no problems with TT over last 18 months so happy with thatand no risk for current Eeros to be disabled.
