Enduring Power of Attirney

My parents completed their Enduring Power of Attorney(property and finance) many years ago. When my dad was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 2014, I registered his Lasting Power of Attorney, and did the same for my mum when my dad passed away in 2016.
I’ve been able to create an online account and register the LPA there so I don’t need to keep sending the documents out, but can’t seem to find a way of doing the same for the EPA.
Any help on how I can do this would be muchly appreciated

I don’t think the online system is available for EPAs. Even for LPA the online system only works for more recent ones. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -
Thanks for the replies. I was coming to the conclusion the EPA couldn’t be added to the online system0

Any help on how I can do this would be muchly appreciatedWhen you mum created an LPA in 2016 was this just health & welfare? Not property and financial affairs too which could have superseded - the old EPA?To use the EPA - you should register it (by post) using the form at the link above. However, I would recommend - before sending it off you get some certified copies made (e.g. certified by a solicitor). Some banks will allow you to use an unregistered EPA in some circumstances (i.e. one that has not yet been registered with the Office of the Public Guardian).1 -
The EPA (property and finance) was registered at the same time as my dads, possibly late 1990’s early 2000’s done with their wills at a solicitors.
My dads LPA (health and welfare) was done when he was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, and my mums when my dad passed away in 2016z
I need to read the link again as I was under the impression it was for the LPA (health and welfare), and not the EPA(property and finance) or that I’m getting not seeing that LPA is the new name for EPA0 -
The EPA is a legal document but,as others have said,it is only registered with the OPG by following the procedure that has been linked to by msb1234.Crag30 said:The EPA (property and finance) was registered at the same time as my dads, possibly late 1990’s early 2000’s done with their wills at a solicitors.

This does not mean you cannot use the EPA without registering it.I had no problem with my late mother’s bank about 9 years ago,but anecdotally some bank staff and systems have over time become less accustomed to dealing with EPAs.I registered the EPA when she had clearly diminished capacity. When you register the EPA you will receive it back from the OPG stamped in acknowledgement of registration. As suggested, best to retain a certified copy yourself, just in case0 -
Are you sure about the EPA being registered all those years ago? Unlike the newer LPAs an EPA is not meant to be registered with the OPG until someone starts to lose mental capacity. Until that point an EPA document just sits around in someone's possession or being stored by a solicitor.Crag30 said:The EPA (property and finance) was registered at the same time as my dads, possibly late 1990’s early 2000’s done with their wills at a solicitors.

It's different with an LPA - when an LPA is created it should be initially registered with the OPG - then at a later date when someone starts to lose capacity is can be "activated".
Because of the flexibility that an EPA gives, when LPAs were introduced many people kept their existing EPA for their financial affairs and just created a new LPA for health and welfare.

This last bit sums up the situation with my parents.Because of the flexibility that an EPA gives, when LPAs were introduced many people kept their existing EPA for their financial affairs and just created a new LPA for health and welfare.I do have a certified copy, but thought it’d just make things easier getting it online so as not to have to keep sending a certified copy out each time it was needed.
Mums attendance allowance is the first time the EPA is needed, but no doubt it’s going to be requested again at other points in this journey.
Thanks for your help with this. I don’t have so much free time to do as much research myself, so have requested the help from the forum0
