I have to cook Chinese on Christmas Eve - mums birthday and her favourite mealI cheat a lot, I buy duck with pancakes in PLUS tempura prawns ( not Chinese but she loves them ) . I cook egg fried rice, chicken in black bean and pork belly braised in a honey chilli sauce . Lots of veg and its actually not a heavy meal, esp the chicken and black bean.3

Nigella's latest Christmas offering is pure hygge! Watch it for inspiration (I won't be replicating her recipes, her handling of almond pastry in particular reminded me of someone trying to push their piles back in
)
No man is worth crawling on this earth.
So much to read, so little time.3 -
We will be having unsmoked gammon steaks and ? on Christmas Eve.0

As we're having beef wellington for Christmas Day we're just having a normal roast pork dinner tomorrow night! As we don't have any family visiting over Christmas it seemed a bit daft doing a big dinner!1

Christmas cake....
Not actually sure what we are having. I was thinking a takeaway but thought I'd use the money to pay of some bills instead. Get ahead for a frugal new year 😆
Not having a dinner on Christmas day, making a buffet instead. Maybe I can just sneak a few bits for dinner 🤷♀️ and a slice of Christmas cake too. 😉January 2025 GC 🥕 £144.61 / £400

Update : daughters friend came round and her charcuterie board was wonderful, looked like a Christmas wreath. It was green salad at the bottom, with baby tomatoes and mini mozzarella and salami meats made into flowers, very festive.1

For Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve I tend to do a deli platter. Some of those home over Christmas are vegetarian plus they are typically coming and going to see friends who are also home for a few days. Something I can put out on demand works well. How much of it is homemade depends on how my days off work fall.Fashion on the Ration
