If the government are offering to pay free fuel for you for 12 months would you take it? You can afford to run the car yourself but the government offer to pay for it, would you say no?BJV said:I bought a house and I earn over 30k.
When we moved in the boiler did not work, the roof leaked and cooker in the kitchen was condemned. Not for one second did I think that I should ask the taxpayer to pay for the repairs.
Don't you think it would be better for the taxpayer to spend the money where it can help the most amount of people instead of paying for you to add value to your house? There are so many people in genuine need.
I understand your frustration but why not use the forum to help you save so you can pay for the repairs yourself?
Not having a dig but really? Cheap house at auction that is priced cheap because it does not have gas, needs renovation etc and you are surprised that there is not a grant to help you renovate it?
The government offer grants. I'm asking this money saver site if anyone has any advice.
I've not complained I can't get it. I've not said I should get this or that. I've not said I'm surprised about anything. I'll get what I can get. If that's nothing then I'll continue with it myself.
The fact remains the government have decided to use tax payers money to fund the grants. Take it up with them if you're unhappy with this. I want to know if i am eligible in the governments criteria. End of.5 -
No fire at all but maybe back boiler but it needs knocking through first, thanks thoughRobin9 said:If the property has a coal fire does that have a back boiler to provide h/w. ? My parents did - plus water from a well, no gas, no electric, septic tank-0 -
If Stoke on Trent were offering ECO4 Flex, I think you'd qualify. However if they're not participating, it doesn't help you.daveymingming said:
The property will be my only home. I read that there are a lot of grants going and with my EPC of F then I would highly likely get some help. I have possibly got it all wrong. I heard about an eco4flex but it doesn't seem to be available in my area, Stoke on Trent, as my council have told me.QrizB said:Welcome back to the forums! What was your plan for the property when you bought it? Not having these services can't have come as a surprise? From the info you've given, you might qualify for ECO4. What EPC rating does your property have?I think the best you can hope for in the very short term is to use direct-electric heating, and look to other options for the near future.Do you have Economy 7 electricity (or another split-rate service) or is the property single-rate?N. There is rather a push at the moment to reduce carbon emissions - and efficient use of energy in the home is a part of that...

All those who are making digs about taxpayer this and taxpayer that - I'm curious - what steps did you take to return the money you saved on energy when the EPG was in place to the Government coffers? or is it just other people who shouldn't be able to make use of grants etc which are offered without judgement? (And yes, that is a pair of entirely rhetorical questions - let's not derail the thread any further eh - just please, stop and think whether you are being helpful and contributing, or the alternative...)
OP - you do have a fair few helpful suggestions on the thread - I'd be inclined to roll your eyes and scroll past those who just want to level judgement if I were you - life's too short!
Does your EPC provide any input on what the priority order might be, and also how you stand on things like insulation?🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

You might be able to get a grant of £7,500 towards the cost of a central heating system using a heat pump https://www.gov.uk/apply-boiler-upgrade-scheme/what-you-can-get

But surely a heat system would be pointless if the house has poor insulation as sounds likely?Reed_Richards said:You might be able to get a grant of £7,500 towards the cost of a central heating system using a heat pump https://www.gov.uk/apply-boiler-upgrade-scheme/what-you-can-get1 -
For those that offered advice, I thank you. Very much appreciated and Merry Christmas!!1

If you do manage to find some kind of assistance in the way of grants - do pop back and update, and let us know how you got on - it might help others with the same question in future... (Although things change frequently).

Well we don't know that, although I agree it is quite likely. But if the insulation is poor it means the heat system, any heat system, will be more expensive to run that it would be with better insulation. The best course of action would be to first improve the insulation then put in a heat system matched to the needs of the better-insulated building. But I wouldn't want the OP to freeze to death in the interim.katejo said:
