Possible to mass edit filenames?

Too late now there has been success but a bit like Andy I would just have used VB or VbA ( or any other simple prog that goes filename manipulation) and do renames based upon conditional tests. So simple or complex changes catered for in just a few lines of code.0

Would this work for you?Be very careful if you do try and use it, once you press the 'Rename' button there is no going back !If disk space allows pehaps it would be better to use the 'Copy/Move to Location' option, at least then you would have copies of the files to check if it's working as you need.0

I usually use Bulk Rename Utility for bulk file renaming tasks: https://www.bulkrenameutility.co.uk/
In this instance though I wonder if something like: https://www.tvrename.com/
might work? I've never tried it myself.
Various alternatives are available: https://alternativeto.net/software/tv-rename/Stompa0 -

Hope nobody else feels put out I didn't go with their option. I selected this one as 1) it seemed the easiest for me to understand and 2) I already had Irfanview. Not put out in the least - glad you got it sorted.I've used Irfanview for years, without ever realising it could do that.

I too never realised Irfanview had that capability.Great what you can learn or a forum!

Power rename does what I think you want.It is what I use for adjusting names for plex, you have to think before you click apply, as sometimes you have to work in stagesPowertoys comes with the immeasurably useful file locksmith (what is using this file and preventing me from doing what I want?) some useful utilities like a mouse cursor finder, and a load of junk.I use plex too, and it can be a real pain! Here's my tip- If you have The Film that goes with The TV Series and want it to show up with the series, name it as a special e.g. S00E99 then it will appear as a special that you can edit the name of. (otherwise a film will never show up if your library is set to TV series)
Thanks for the tip. I'll take a look at that program as I realised I messed up yesterday when sorting the seasons and then when I've gone to sort it out something has gone wrong, even though they're now named correctly & I can't figure out what it is.
Side note, not that it should be overly difficult from the info here, have you sussed what TV series I'm working with by any chance?0 -
you need to be very careful bulk with your naming files when they have different file extensions for example some are MP4 and some are MKV
Windows has not play nicely with this and can mix up the order
is it GOT ?0 -

Not a clue- something with many episodes and multiple seasons-Miraculous, les aventures de Ladybug et Chat Noir?Doctor Who?One of the many Star Trek variants?NCIS?Iryuu Sousa?or is your username the clue and it is Dallas?anyway a screenshot
I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

I'd messed up the episodes in which season so once I sorted that out Plex decided it was now dealing with a mixture of TV shows - the one I want and some I've never even heard of, yet I hadn't changed the naming format of the videos.
I've since renamed the sub folders (the seasonal folders) to also include the TV Show name whereas before they just said Season 1, Season 2 & it was only the parent folder that had the name. This change seems to have fixed things.
Anyway thanks for the screenshot. For now Irfanview seems to have sorted it but I'll certainly be taking a look at the software you suggested to see if it's any better/easier for future ref.0 -
I've been wrestling with the vagaries of plex for a few months nowIt is very annoying when you are lead to believe that it just works.I usually end up over at tvdb to get the number codes for some series to add to the folder names in an effort to get them recognised.Their special episode numbers S00E01 etc. are usually one out compared to plex too.The latest annoyance is I sometimes get a pop-up dire warning that I'm trying to play an HDR file, and it is transcoding to deliberately make the colours wrong (but I can buy a plex pass to change the colours back). It is annoying because 1) my TV can do eye searing HDR so it doesn't need to transcode 2) the shield can output HDR 3) the file isn't HDR in the first place!I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....
