As just one example, according to the RAC Foundation average petrol prices rose by over 75% between May 2020 and July 2022, and there was a steady increase over those 2 years.

I wonder at which point the Op decided to stop buying petrol during that period because he was being ripped off?

That's just one example of price rises - there are many others!

    What's your point?

No increase to my 99p HP Instant Ink subscription. Yet.
I spoke too soon! Now £1.49. I think I can live with that.
Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.

I also got an email saying it’s going up in February. It's been worth it until now but having done a comparison, for me there’s little difference between what I will pay and buying third party cartridges on the £2.99 plan (soon to be £3.99). So January will be my last month.

Next printer will be an open tank one!

  • I do wonder why people still have anything to do with HP, they used to make really solid kit, but their practices with printers, as well as what I perceive as a substantial drop in quality of their non-business kit and their attitude to customer service leads me to question why anyone would still use them.

£1.99 for 50 pages was fine, but now it’s £3.99 for 50 not really worth it for me as don’t use it consistently, I might go to the £1.49 for 10 for a while whilst looking at alternatives as when it had the non subscription cartridges it never printed much before becoming illegible.
(Also really unpredictable to get any cheaper/refilled cartridges to work in it)

Thats my thoughts too, printer companies make their money off consumables I wonder what will happen if we all bought open tank ones and shoved any ink in it

I’ve just got an email from HP stating that they are increasing my subscription from January 2024. It has previously increased from £1.99 to £2.99.. then another hike in January… to £3.99! The shareholders are going to be very happy! Sadly I will not be paying 100% extra for subscription and contributing to their extortionate profits. Are you having a laugh!
When my HP printer eventually stops working efficiently (it’s already playing up!) I am likely going to buy an alternative make.
ps It is good practice for companies to retain loyal customers, not alienate them! Happy Christmas HP
However the wise and the good on mse tell me the way forward is an inkjet printer. That may well be the outcome.

I think you'll find that the wise and the good will say that the way forward is a monochrome laser printer (I've just installed a replacement for my previous one today).
Hi, if you're happy with yours, could i have link and cost please.

Sorry for the late reply, only just seen your question. This is the one I bought:
It includes automatic duplex printing which is a feature that I like but does add to the cost, if you don't need it you can probably find something cheaper.

Thats reminded me to cancel mine!

Shame as I have just received a full new set of inks that will probably become unusable.

At 1.99/mo it was of value, at 2.99 it was 'just' the wrong side but I kept it for convenience, at 3.99/mo its expensive for my usage compared to ink I can buy myself.

Just logged on to the portal for first time in ages and they also now offer paper on subscription delivered to your door.
  • You wil find quite a few companies taking advantage of the current global situation and Brexit. More money going to those who have plenty at the cost of making the majority of people poorer. End of Days awaits!

Well it will stop working (or at least the cartridges will) fairly soon after you cancel your subscription as it "phones home" regularly to ensure that you are still a subscriber!

Whilst I understand the reaction to the price hike, do your sums carefully particularly if you print lots of photos or graphics that are heavy on ink as with Instant Ink you pay per page regardless of how much ink is used,
