Amazon let down very important delivery and cost us loss money

Even if the mattress had arrived on time it's highly unlikely your guest could have slept on it straight away without being asphyxiated by fumes; most mattresses need to be aired for a time (allow at least several days) because they need to re-shape/relax from the journey and to get rid of the smell of the synthetic components.3

marcobdt said:Hi,
At this second I am extremely furious with Amazon, I have been member and shop tons there for 5 years with great track record I believe, we shop everything there unless groceries, I have multiple occassions item is not delivered on time as they promised and I generally not bothered, but this one particular order I desperately need it to be delivered as the guaranteed delivery time, We have guest coming over fly two continents away to visit us here, and I ordered mattress for them, On the day supposed to be arrived I can see there is no dispatch email as it always be, and I am waiting maybe on the day time it will be updated, and evening slowly come no dispatch email then I called them, asked where is it, the CS said oh it was out of stock when you ordered on the designated point, but don't worry I will trigger one now from another warehouse and we will deliver.
Deliveries are an estimate. They try to deliver on time, but often it is not feasible.
Did you try phoning a local bed company? Supporting local shops is better than buying from Amazon, and I'm sure a local bed shop would have delivered one to you that day if you asked nicely!Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)1 -
Double airbed from Argos for £20 would have done the job as a stop gap solution.3

If you're not thinking two weeks ahead you're just inviting hassle.
If it was a last minute visitor then maybe they should consider staying in a local Travelodge until it's delivered.
Living this last minute life is full of headaches and hassle.2 -
You've had very little sympathy OP but I can understand why you were frustrated, and why you didn't order another one from elsewhere because Amazon have been reliable in the past and let you down this time. It's unfortunate but does sometimes happen, it's just very unfortunate that it happened to you this time. Looking back it appears you should have ordered another one from somewhere else once it didn't turn up, but it's easy to say with hindsight - not so easy when it's actually happening.
But, Amazon certainly aren't liable for you paying out money as you didn't feel you had any other suitable option. Other people would likely have made different choices in your situation, to be fair, so you can't really say Amazon forced you to do it.
Hopefully you'll find a decent airbed ready for future use to avoid anything like this happening again.0 -

Living this last minute life is full of headaches and hassle.Fair comment, but I'm just wondering why my very similar post saying that you really should have a bed in place before inviting guests to stay was deleted?I would have thought that was simply common sense?0 -

diinozzo said:A cheap and easily stored inflatable mattress was clearly the way to go before necking alcohol whilst waiting on an unlikely to happen Amazon delivery.Maybe my warped sense of humour but I was thinking maybe they just wanted more free booze so they could all get drunk and then
they would not care where they slept?
Regards the smell of a new mattress, glad it's not just me that needs to leave them to air for a while. Does not seem to matter what brand
of mattress we get they all have a smell that I dislike and needs airing, I tend to leave them a week or so if possible.
