I've just caught up. Love the chef story. As a child, my grandmother worked at a large house with a chef (who went on to become very very famous - I used to go to the big house for my "tea". He would offer to make me anything - and - what did i ask for "dippy eggs and toast" every time. My memory is that it was always perfect
And installed a love for dippy eggs and toast
It really is the simple things in childhood that matter and that build the memories, a warm kitchen where A* cared enough to make sure the scrappy child was fed anything she wanted, talked to me and cooked me dippy eggs to perfection. I'm sure if I told the story at school I would have been mocked that was my dinner. The flip side was envy of where I went during the holidays as I had free rein of the estate. We never know the whole story but sadly as children we lack the discernment to know that.
I'm not actually sure that as adults we get that often either
Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became
In the event the proverbial hits the fan then co-habitees are better stashing their cash than being mortgage free !!6 -

Good Afternoon MFW'rs
'Snow day' with us. I realise schools have to make a call, and whilst from a site H&S viewpoint, it largely probably was the correct call, in actuality, the snow itself wasn't really bad enough. We had very wet snow, which is more slush than snow. We've had more rain, and it's cold - but thankfully not freezing. If this freezes, it will be chaos, but at the moment, it's just a slushy grey mess.
Online work was set, so we've had shades of 'omeskool this morning 😬 and afternoon 😬. But we made an early start this morning with our outdoor exercise whilst the snow slush was still pristine ☹️🙄 and so I've made the executive decision that skool is 'out' for the day/week.
The seal for the shower has just turned up in the post 😱 I did not think we would have had a delivery today, although I suspect it was just 'parcelly' post that was getting handed out, rather than a walking letter delivery. But that's a job for DH over the weekend! 😁
We had a tomato cup-soup for lunch, with a bit of bread and butter and the last of the dupe pr1ngles - LG has been taking a few to school in their pack up this week, and there were just a few left - which needed finishing as they had just started to go soft. Interestingly LG said that they liked the cup-soup, but that my HM was better 🥰 I think I bought these soups for 'emergency' meals when we went away in HT last year, so it was good to be able to use them. As it was just me & LG I shall be honest and say I couldn't be bothered to make soup 🫤 #badmumma. We both had a mince pie for 'pud'. That is the MrM mince pies all finished up now. Tea tonight will be veggie burgers and wedges.
Right, I can't think of anything else that is specifically on an MSE vibe, so I shall push orf.

Too true beanie - although I think most of the staff at LG's school are pretty local - in fact, the head, and the previous head probably lived 'furthest' away - and I think they have both made it in, on the times that we've had adverse conditions.beanielou said:One of the problems also with schools is they have to factor in staff travel.
I think you probably can't please all of the people, all of the time, although it is interesting that there has been a vastly different approach to staying open/closing in local educational establishments.
With all the wet conditions, it will become 😬 if we get plunging temperatures 😬so fingers crossed that we swerve that. At the moment, we've unsightly mush, muddy grass and puddles. Better that than black ice, and ice-rinks.

As redo said, the stainless steel inner pot of the IP goes in the dishwasher, but so can the lid and seal (remove the weight and a couple of other bits first) - on the top shelf. So easy to clean. I’ve had mine 5(?) years now, used nearly every day and wouldn’t be without it. Will have to investigate the KR though!Mortgage free 16/06/2023! £132,500 cleared in 11 years, 3 months and 7 days

Hey hun, I realised the inner pot could be removed to be washed, but that's a revelation to me about the lid. I have been watching a couple of frugal vlogs - they happen to be US-based, but they regularly IP beans - and I'd noticed the bean...... debris (I don't know what to call it, but it does occur more regularly if you're rapid de-pressurising). And I'd pondered how that could be removed - as it very often dries out quickly in the heat, and sets hard (ask me how I know this..... 🤔).themadvix said:As redo said, the stainless steel inner pot of the IP goes in the dishwasher, but so can the lid and seal (remove the weight and a couple of other bits first) - on the top shelf. For me, personally, I prefer the simplicity and repair-ability/maintenance of the 'analogue' PrC I have, but from a space saving point of view (I realise they aren't small), I can see how the IP/multicookers score highly if you can't have every kitchen gadget. I use my PrC far more than my SC. I'm making myself learn more how to use the SC, to incorporate it in veggie cooking, but theirs no doubt to me, that I reach for the PrC, easily many X's more than I do the SC.
Thanks for telling us about the IP - I'm always happy to learn new things!

I have an Insty -I got it from L*keland at a sale price of £99 instead of over £200. I use the PC and sauté a lot plus the SC sometimes. Mine also doubles as an air fryer and has a bake, roast and grill function -you remove the inner pressure lid. I find it really useful not having to put the full oven on to bake small portions.
It does take up counterpoint room but I choose it and the big Kenwood over a microwave

I was just adding my tuppence-worth for Ed’s benefit GP - I know you’re very happy with yours and if it works perfectly then you’re certainly not going to replace it. It is useful, being able to stick it in the dishwasher. Agree about the repairability of yours though - the digital buttons on mine won’t last forever, which is annoying, but I think the press and forget convenience outweighs this for me. (You’ve got me do your italics to emphasise that I’m only looking at it from my pov now too! 😊).
