OK thanks BoGoF - I will consider doing thatBoGoF said:You will need to post details of your payslips if you want an answer
If you are unwilling to give the full details there are a couple of checks that can be made with limited details, that may give an answer.collinsca said:

From your last two payslips (ie the one with £30 extra tax and the one before that ) can you give the tax code and the month number or date of payment if no month number given. I can then give you some figures that you can use to check for a couple of posable answers..1 -
Thanks - only thing that differs between the two is the PAYE (and therefore "Total deductions").la531983 said:
Well you will have tax on both, NI on both, maybe other deductions on both, and a base salary on both.collinsca said:
Thanks, I have and the only thing different is the PAYEla531983 said:Probably wont be, the NI changes dont come in until January.
Why dont you just compare this wageslip with the last one?
Look at which ones differ.
I have reached out to HR0 -
Something must be different. With the same pay and same tax code there will only ever be a few pence difference in monthly net pay.only thing that differs between the two is the PAYE
Which points towards a tax code change or an error in YTD pay.

There are a couple of possibilities that same code on same gross can give different tax deductions.molerat said:Something must be different. Lower earnings early in the year which then get higher and eventually go into the 40% tax band or higher earnings or perhaps a bonus earlier in the tax year that take you into the 40% tax band but earnings then drop and month by month some of the 40% tax is converted into 20% tax which lowers the monthly tax. When all the 40% tax has been converted to 20% tax the "normal" tax is then taken which appears to be a tax increase.0 -

I have been told by Payroll that i have a "cumulative tax code" and therefore fluctuations are normal.... not that it has happened before.... will wait and see what happens next year.
Thanks all0 -
A cumulative code will only fluctuate (apart from a few pence) if you cross over from one tax band to another, either going up a band or down a band.collinsca said:I have been told by Payroll that i have a "cumulative tax code" and therefore fluctuations are normal.... not that it has happened before.... will wait and see what happens next year.

As I said earlier if you advise your tax code and month number for the two paydays I can give you some figures to check if this has happened.0 -

Tax? National Insurance? Surely your employer has both as a separate line?
Has your employer maybe applied the new NI rates a month early by mistake?
I am on a "cumulative tax code" and some months I get paid more than others, but we are talking 20p here.0 -
Thanks - My payslip doesnt align to the headings you gave so i am struggling to work out the data.chrisbur said:collinsca said:
