Evening fellow slowies, I’ve been awol for a few days too, had a minor surgery and definitely made the most of the no strenuous exercise instruction, even though that’s not something I’m known for even when fighting fit.
@Smudgeismydog your walks sound lovely, I’m a fellow dog walker and it is so lovely to see lighter mornings and the snowdrops and crocus peeping through.
My weekend was mostly spent relaxing, although I did go to the cinema and out for Sunday lunch, which made a lovely change and a Sunday off cooking the family roast.
I treated myself to the new novel by Lorraine Kelly so looking forward to starting that later this week, One of my DDs is also an avid reader so once I’ve finished it, I will give it to her and she will pass on her current read to me. This arrangement works well for us and another couple of family members, we all have slightly different reading tastes so it really broadens my reading material and I often end up loving a book that I wouldn’t normally have bought.
currently I’m on instruction not to shower for 72 hours to keep my stitches dry I assume, but I can have a bath and don’t have one often, I perhaps should add I normally do shower….just in case you were all wrinkling your nose lol….anyway looking forward to a long soak in the bath with some balancing rose and clay bath salts which according to the jar will relax, detox, unwind and soften my skin….still expect I will lay there to long and emerge like a great wrinkled prune.
Hope everyone has a lovely slow week.Well Behaved women seldom make history

I'm also a great fan of Stoic philosophy and it helped me cope with an awful job a few years ago. They are so calming and helpful. We think we have found a house to offer on. I am also handing in my notice soon and have worked out I only have 90 working days left.
Honestly I do not think I could cope with my job for another 9 years, I think I would end up quite mad and crash and burn health wise11 -

@Slowdown do you have any particular books you would recommend. I love a bit of history and would like to read more around the Stoics.Half term here for us this week. Trying to resist organising something for the children to do every day but it’s so hard to keep them off screens when we are at home. We can but try!5

Loving this thread, very relaxing and gentle, like others I don’t follow the news as depresses me too much and as they say journalists deliberately concentrate on what with well sell the most papers and give them the greatest clicks, which can all be very divisive.@zcrat41 - not sure if any good for you but I love dipping in and out of the free Ryan Holiday Stoic podcasts.- The Daily Stoic. He has written some good books as well, though I have decided I also like the philosophy of Epicurus as like my pleasures in life
Could do with some other recommendations myself as found other Stoic books I have read too heavy going. Thinking Meditations and Marcus Aurelius
i have been retired 6 weeks now and loving the freedom and lack of stress, though need to slow down more as feel my life can be a bit too organised and regimental.
Today was polishing the lounge, now a walk in woods with dog followed by Aqua Aerobics, a sauna then lying on sun bed by pool in gym to relax while I dry off. Not a bad life….
My only issue with retirement is how quick the days go…..Money SPENDING Expert9 -
Just been catching up on this thread. it really is quite lovely. I certainly have many 'slow days' but these are more forced due to low energy, When I am feeling energetic, I make lists and crack on with all the jobs that have been waiting and thus do to much and then im back to resting again! I very much need to pace myself better. I think in the long run I would get a lot more done!I find this thread very inspiring and it resonates very much.I have also enjoyed the retirment thread, I am not close to that yet and only work part time, But I keep trying to talk to m DH about it, so we can just begin to start to think about that time and so we could enjoy thinking about what we could do. But he always says he cant imagine not working and wont really talk at all about it! ~ so something to work on!! I enjoying the YT video some one posted, he seems so happy with his simple life, i think simplicity is key!Not sure if anyone else on here does this, but when I reading about someone efforts to slowdown, I notice I start to slow my breathing down in a consciuos way !!!
Silly me!

I got a new Fitbit so my husband got my old one. I just did a brisk walk to the beach and back. I saw some nice Spring flowers.
I found a YouTube channel yesterday called Early Retirement Wanderlust and I'm going to carry on watching them this afternoon. A British couple who retired at 51.

@Wednesday2000
we have a similar big patch of crocuses near us and I always want to stop the car to have a good look - unfortunately there's too much traffic.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe and Old Style Money Saving boards.
