Morning all. I have a lovely task today. An older family member is passing on a grandfather clock to me so we have to go and pick it up. It’s got
a bit of history to it - made in the 1790’’s and has been owned by my great great grandfather!Church breakfast this morning too. Also need to try and find time to relax a bit as I can feel the stress building15 -
Talk about slow!! Kitchen work finished (except for the floor....) on 22nd Jan and I'm still putting stuff back in. I now have a box of "questionables". Stuff that I either don't want and will never use (garlic press) but my OH might consider invaluable. So my line to him is going to be find a place for it (preferably one that makes sense and doesn't irritate me) or put it in the box for charity. Like why do we have ph testing stuff for the hot tub in the kitchen? Put it in the shed beside the hot tub!!! I'll need to give him time as he's still awfully weary after his stay in hospital but will make it clear that at some point the box will be going into my car for the charity shop.
Major issue also currently for the kitchen is the drainer for dishes. I can't find one that I like. There's one that looks good but isn't practical (can't fit large plates or trays in it) and another which is really good but wobbles which is annoying and possibly unstable.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe, Old Style Money Saving and Pensions boards. Good morning 🌅
It was a nicely slow weekend although a few stressful elements intruded. Having my crochet hour earlier in the day is paying dividends. It is actually growing and might not take me forever to finish. It still feels a bit strange though and I need to surrender to it rather than mentally listing what I am going to do next. Otherwise, I have had a good session of pruning in the garden, late afternoon reading of my book and walking and playing with my dog. On Saturday afternoon I had a leisurely bath and what passes as a pamper session for me; washing my hair plus using a face mask. I lit the fire beforehand so cosied up with my book and a glass of wine whilst DH attempted making the evening meal unassisted. That didn’t go entirely to plan but never mind!Knowing that I have the ingredients in for all the meals that I will make this week is very reassuring. I would like to walk to the shops each day but that doesn’t feel practical with where I live, although a 10 mile walk would no doubt do me good. I am not doing sufficient exercise so maybe that is something to consider. I did make pizzas which I haven’t done for a while because it felt like too much last minute faff, however, I got the different elements prepared beforehand which meant it felt easier.I think it may have been Slowdown who mentioned the Stoics. I have recently begun reading “How to think like a Roman Emperor” and am looking forward to developing some different approaches in my thinking. A pile on of stressful events has impacted my resilience and I need to rebuild some mental strength.@Brie - I hope you can get everything just as you like it soon and that your OH starts to feel better.10 -
Morning everyone. Lovely sunny day here today 😊
I’ve had a lovely weekend. Walked the dog with my friend Saturday morning, as is our habit. Then met friends for lunch which turned into all afternoon, ending with coffee and a cake. Saturday evening I watched tv and snacked - woke early on Sunday , keen to get my housework done (I know, but it makes me feel so much better when my house is clean and tidy!!). Coloured my hair, then out with friends Sunday afternoon for a sports event.Today (once I get out of bed….its my day off…) I’m planning to go to the gym which I haven’t done for months. Also going to meal plan and shop for this week. Oh and I’m also meeting someone for a coffee…kind of a blind date. Fixed up by a friend - haven’t had a date since before I was married, and I got divorced 12 years ago so that feels a bit strange. Going with an open mind 😊
And I won a small amount on the lottery this weekend so I’m trying hard not to spend it all at once! Although I do think ‘How to die with zero’ will be on my list.8 -

I had a fibromyalgia flare up at the weekend. It was only my third one in 2 years as I know as I can remember as that was when I moved here. I should have taken ibuprofen and gone to bed at the hotel, but it was my family party. I hadn't seen them in 25 years so I couldn't cancel at the last minute. Very bad timing! I did go and it was nice to see everyone, but I have been feeling very tired the past couple days. I had forgotten that it feels like after having a migraine where you feel exhausted for a few days afterwards.
I got up today and had quite a big breakfast and read some of my book and then felt like taking a nap around midday, so I got back into my pyjamas and did take a 2 hour nap. I felt much better when I got up and then had a bubble bath and I put magnesium butter on my feet and fluffy socks on. I'm just going to relax at home now for the rest of the day. I still feel full up from breakfast, but I have lots of tomatoes so I might make a pasta sauce or tomato soup later.
That Die With Zero book is good. I'm about 100 pages in.8 -
I remembered what I meant to say about the book. He was saying about looking back at the last year and rate the positive experiences with points. Then you can fit in as many of them as you can in the future. He used gardening as an example of an activity some people love and some people (like me) would see it as a chore. He said about finding completely free experiences and doing as much as you can of them too.
The experiences with the highest points for me would be concerts, eating out at restaurants and going to the cinema. Travel too, but I haven't done much of that at all in my life.
The free activities I like are reading, walking on the beach or woods, spending time with my family and friends and also my pets. My pets would have a very high points value, actually!2025 GOALS
