Slow Living - Doing It Old Style!

Evening everyone. This has not been a slow week for me! My sleep has mostly been rubbish but that's due to an overactive mind - stopping me dropping off this time (it usually wakes me up!). My trip to the dentist was very positive and it turns out no work is needed at the moment on my cracked tooth, and the dentist polished out the discolouration. She made me feel very comfortable and explained everything to me, and I've decided to move to that practice away from my NHS dentist. They have an affordable instalment plan for two checkups and scale/polishes a year. I'm also going to book a consultation for braces/aligners as my wonky teeth have bothered me all my life and I would like to do something about it.
Work has been very busy this week and I also haven't been out walking with my son and his dog as much as I would have liked to. However I am walking in the morning with my friend and her dog, and it's a weekly ritual we started during lockdown. It's like free therapy
I'm also meeting friends for lunch tomorrow, which I'm looking forward to.
Following my cancellation of my trip to the states in March, I have already found and booked a cruise in April! I've treated myself to a balcony cabin, and it will still cost me way less than going to the states would have - and be much more relaxing - I'm so glad I made that decision!
To all of you who are struggling either with your own illness or a loved one, or have done in the past - big hugs. My brother in law died in 2021 at 62, 3 months after being diagnosed with cancer. I supported him and my sister during his illness (they lived about 200 miles away and I was staying there about every two weeks for a week) and it was one of the hardest things I've ever had to do - heartbreaking. My ex husband died last year too and he was in his fifties - it was a huge shock for us, and particularly my son who is still struggling with dealing with it all. The realisation that life isn't a dress rehearsal is driving me with my travel plans and also my plans to retire as soon as I can. So I'm trying to enjoy my life and balance that with the need to be 'present', and also not to spend all of my money!! Slow living is an excellent way to see the pleasure in the small things15 -
Moorviews said:My plan of getting into the crochet early didn’t entirely work out. It was such a good drying day that I washed the bedding and put it on the line. The sheets did need a quick tumble afterwards but still smelt line dried and fresh when I enjoyed getting into bed. Various other things had to be done too but eventually I sat down with my crochet just before lunch. Unfortunately, I could see that I had made a mistake so had to sort that out first which just emphasised that I do need to work in a good light. It made me think about how I am in the habit of doing jobs first and then creative things later. I am going to try turning that around and do something creative earlier in the day. It does seem to give me a lift and extra energy.KKAs at 15.07.25:

I also meant to mention that a video popped up on YouTube the other day which is from a channel I think a lot of you would find interesting. This is the video (about retirement, of course!). Hope you enjoy it.8

Hello slowies, glad to hear your husband has recovered so well @Brie, great news.
Very good day today, few hours in the garden pruning , chopping and sweeping. A very long bubble bath after lunch in my favourite local café. Financial chat with DH re our house sale and impending early retirement which will be before Xmas. Decluttering stuff.
Then telly and knitting. It's felt like a good day.
Wishing you all a good day tomorrow9 -
@Brie, that's wonderful! I'm so pleased for you both.
After a few busy days, and before some more busy-ness, DH and I enjoyed our day at home today. It was 10 degrees with some sunshine so we did a few garden jobs, which evolved into a joint effort with our neighbour to cut back some branches that were growing in inconvenient directions. I let them do the ladders and chainsaw bits (generous of me? Not with my head for heights!) but it took all of us to reduce a million birch twigs to scraps so they'd fit in the garden bins, and log the thicker bits, which will be set aside to dry for the log burner. The tree is still beautiful, but there's more light lower down. I let the men tackle the holly that has a thick centre and leggy outer branches - it was quite fun watching but not safe to have spare people in the fall zone. It's going to take at least one more session to finish reducing the crown, but we had to clear up as it was going dark.
Physical work that you want to be doing, out of doors and in good company - what could be better?I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)
