Slow Living - Doing It Old Style!

dND said:Regarding affording the slower living, one thing I've found is that I have time to think and explore my options.
For example, I need some new clothes pegs having ditched all my old ones in France. I've looked around but not found the quality/price I wanted. However, I spotted that L4keland had reduced the price of theirs - still expensive but hopefully good quality - but if I called in Friday morning I could buy them and I would get a gift of 3 washing nets, which I also need to replace.
The nets currently retail for £9.99 on the site and the pegs were £4.99. By my reckoning I'm £5 up. 🤣
This is just the latest example but slowing down and seeing what's available is what I'm hoping will see me through.2021 Decluttering Awards: ⭐⭐🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇 2022 Decluttering Awards: 🥇

If you can do without a zip, I discovered those plastic scrunchie things meant to be used with shower gel can be taken to pieces and leave a tube of mesh. I use one of those in lieu of a zip-able bag (having lost mine) and knot the ends, which then often work undone but if were more organised, I'd sew up one end and put an elastic band round the other.
I suppose the same would work with the plastic mesh bags that fruit is often sold in, but I think the metal might snag on clothing.
Lucky you with the robin! What a lovely experience.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

@Floss I moved to a 9 day fortnight over a year ago. It was the best thing I’ve ever done. I try and arrange to do something for me on my non working day. This year I’ve been doing to an exhibition at the V&A, the cinema and plan on another exhibition next week.In 5 years I’ll also be mortgage free so that will be a nice 50th birthday present for me (at 25 I was working for a mortgage provider so took advantage of my knowledge). It’s a bit of a way off but I’m pondering what to do with my mortgage payment once it’s all paid off. I suspect I’ll keep putting some of it away into the ‘house account’ whilst I’m working to fund repairs and squirrel the rest away into my pension.✒️ Declutter 2025👗 Fashion on the Ration 2025 61/66 coupons (5 coupons silver boots)✒️Declutter 2024 🏅🏅🏅(DSis 🏅🏅)

speaking of Lakeland reducing prices.....I bought a roll of shelf liner the other day for £9.99 and today got an email mentioning the same stuff reduced as standard price to £6.99. Likely I will return what I bought and repurchase as I haven't opened it yet. Our slow living today was a little drive out to the edge of some woodland and from there a walk uphill and along a country lane to the main road (which we didn't attempt to cross as the traffic is very fast). We could see a little country church over the other side. DH was telling me he used to cycle out there in lockdown and the silence was beautiful.
On the way back we went past a field of sheep and I was reminded the lambs will be along soon. In fact it was quite a gentle day, the sun was out and we were nice and warm from walking. Back at home I noticed the buds on the greengage are starting to develop.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

I did a bit of decluttering my wardrobe yesterday, listed some stuff for sale and charity bagged other stuff. My wardrobe is much easier to get into now!
Also potted up some spider plant babies which will end up as gifts - very satisfying as they’ve been in a jam jar of water on my kitchen windowsill for weeks!! And I noticed some bulbs starting to come up in the garden.13 -
I love spider plants, can remember when I was little everyone had them in their bathrooms!
After my dental bone graft yesterday spent lying on the sofa knitting and watching telly, I am planning more of the same today. Feeling v tired.
@Cherryfudge your walk sounded idyllic.
Have a good day all xxx
