Slow Living - Doing It Old Style!

Hi Slowsters, sitting with hot water bottle up my top after my lido swim. Just had a lush cheese and mushroom omelette so very happy now. Going to go up and put my PJs on soon and then sort breakfast. Last swim for a week tomorrow as having a dental procedure on Saturday morning requiring stitches and healing.
Scarf is about 2 feet long, it's slow going as its a fancy lacy pattern.
Keep warm peeps, still blowy out there6 -
@cranky40 - well done for starting the pantry sorting 🙌 I still need to finish the inventory of my freezers and storecupboards but, like you, decided that I'd do it in stages this time 😉
@Florafauna - I hope everything goes well with your dental procedure 🤞 never the most pleasant thing to go through but hopefully you'll heal quickly 😊
Dinner tonight was rocket leaves, black grapes, pomegranate, mixed wholegrains and baked tofu 😍 it was fabulous and I feel so much better for having something fresher - there's only so many curries, casseroles, soups and pasta dishes I can cope with!! 😂

Mrs _slapshot - when I only had 5 years of work left before retirement, I walked out of a very stressful job as I felt I just couldn't go on. I had paid my mortgage off and had no debt but I still needed to work, so I worked far fewer hours in a well known sm, clocking on and off! I loved it, no worries, great colleagues, slept all night and had no stress, it was the best thing I ever did and I became more frugal and appreciated what I had🙂
Having a bit of a hectic week with family, so not much 'slow living' being done at the moment, but hopefully it will improve very soon. Looking after dds dog for a few days soon so I'm envisaging walks, fresh air and thinking time🙂. Something I'm hoping to investigate very soon is making my own cleaning products and doing some baking for the freezer.

Enforced slowness here, I've come home sick with sore throat and going hot and cold. V rarely have any time off so resting as I have a dental procedure tomorrow. @mrsslapshot I have been thinking non stop about early retirement from my mad job since your post and doing some part time work that's less stressful. In good position as no debt. Hmmm, cogs are turning here9

on the home made cleaner front - I do a bit of this and the best one I’ve made so far is a shower screen cleaner. In a spray bottle, half water and half white vinegar. Add a teaspoon of washing up liquid and shake. Spray onto the glass and let sit for 10 mins. Use something rough like a washing up sponge to work it into the glass, rinse off with cool water and buff with a cloth. The glass comes up great, even in a hard water area like mine.12 -

Hmmm, cogs are turning hereMy boss spoke to me this afternoon as his boss said she thought I had capacity to take extra work on (I don’t, but that’s never stopped her before..). Anyway, I spoke really frankly to him and said I was already thinking of ‘retiring’ at the end of the year and something like this would just bring it forward. He’s a great boss and does his best to ‘protect’ me in situations like this but honestly I just don’t think I’ve got the energy to fight it like I usually do!! I think it would be the catalyst I need. It’s still not confirmed, we’ll see what happens but this is exactly why I want to get out of corporate life!!
edited to say get well soon!!13 -
I also wanted to say @leftatthetrafficlights your meals always look amazing!! So colourful and inventive - I’d love to see your recipes.8

Hey slowies
Am now in bed about to have an early night. Intrigued by the shower screen cleaner and going to make some when my usual stuff runs out.
@mrsslapshot thinks fate had come knocking on your door!
Sleep well folks7 -
@nannygladys, I hope your family stuff calms down soon! Like @mrs_slapshot, I make my own cleaners - similar ingredients but I put lemon rinds and rosemary in my vinegar/water/washing up liquid mix and leave it for a week or two to infuse before I strain it. The lemon gives it a nice scent and the rosemary is antibacterial 😉
@Florafauna - I hope you feel better soon - it's the last thing you need with the dental work happening tomorrow!! 🤦♀️ Fingers crossed that you feel better in the morning 🤞
@mrs_slapshot - Your boss's boss sounds like a nightmare!! 😳 Well done for telling him how you feel - hopefully he'll let his boss know that you don't have the capacity 😉 I'm glad you like the look of my food - I don't really have recipes as I make the majority up as I go along but when I do make a recipe based dish, I'll post a piccie and instructions 😁
Anyway, speaking of food - tonight was salad (rocket, pomegranate and black grapes), roasted plantains, aduki beans cooked with ras el hanout and coconut sticky rice....it was very nice!
