Car Park Fine

Hi Everybody, Just wondering if anyone has ever received a parking ticket by a private(?) company called EURO CAR PARKS? They have asked for £30 if paid within 21 days or £50 after that. Is this legal for them to do? It was in a Sainsbury's Car park!
Thanks a lot

This is legal and they will have been brought in by Sainsburys to reduce abuse of their car parks by people who park in them when NOT shopping at Sainsburys.

There WILL be signs in the car park warning you of this.

Unless they have made a mistake, you got the ticket because YOU were parking in Sainsbury's car park to avoid paying to park somewhere else, whilst NOT shopping at Sainsbury's.

Quite right too if you ask me! The car park belongs to Sainsbury's and it's for their customers.

How would you like it if someone came and parked on your drive to avoid paying to park in a car park???

However, if you really were in Sainsburys I would send a copy of the till receipt to their head office and complain.

How is it legal for a private company to demand payment? What legal channels can they follow and won't it cost them more than the actual fine?

You work for Sainsburys by any chance?

Nope, just don't like people who think they can park where the hell they like.

What about if you did shopping with Sainsbury's and then popped somewhere else in the remaining time?

When will motorists stop being persecuted?

The sainsbury's close to me has a very clear sign that the car park is run by Euro Car Parks, and I noticed that someone had got a ticket the other day. It states that you are allowed to park for two hours free, and must pay after that. If you are shopping in Sainsbury's - Two hours for shopping is ample in my opinion! Plenty of cars park in the car park there and then go off to work in town - thinking that they can have free parking, and to be frank - tickets are deserved. The amount of times I havent been able to park when I want to shop is amazing!! And the cars are STILL there later that day. Private companies can charge you for parking if you stay longer than you are allowed, many private car parks have a contract with an agency to clamp cars when they take peoples legitimate paid for spaces - why should people be able to abuse the car parks of a supermarket????

In answer to your second question, when they stop thinking they have a God given right to do what they like and park where they like.

When will some motorists stop thinking they are more special than other motorists and they can park whereever they like without paying?

If you park at our local Sainsburys, you get your car parking money back if you spend enough in store. I think it is £1 for one hour, refundable if you spend £5 in store, £2 for two hours, refundable if you spend £10 in store and £5 for three hours, refundable if you spend £20 in store. In that parking time, people often go across to the shopping centre leaving their cars at Sainsburys. The terms of parking do not prohibit this.

I`m assuming there were "pay and display" machines at this Sainsburys carpark and you just ignored them.
If so it might be wiser to cough up the £30 and put it down to experience.
These people who clamp and issue parking tickets have a "one track mind" and just carry on regardless to the next stage and it could end up costing you hundreds.
Ever see that program on BBC1 called "bailiffs",a £60 fine ends up costing £600.

Then go back to your car within the alloted time or get a ticket!! Simple really - you cant abuse council car parks - why should it be the same elsewhere??

Whilst I can appreciate the annoyance this causes to many, in reality, I dont think this can be called 'persecution'. The associated costs involved with owning a car is the trade off for the convenience they offer in comparison to public transport.

Its pretty simple - if dont pay for petrol, you break down in the street - If you dont pay motor insurance and have an accident, then you face the consequences - if you break the car parking rules, you get a ticket, and so on....
