If a person wanted to return an item and the retailer offered 50% off next order and keep item would that be OK?

Could be, could not be, that's the sort of thing I'd expect to see from a businesses run by sellers located in China or such.

to be fair, it seems like the OP has left the discussion - Shame as I’d have liked to see the letter!
