We do similar Duchess2, just DH, myself and the cat. No visitors so we get up when we want, eat what we like when we like and have a thoroughly relaxing day. Only a few prezzies for friends and family so not terribly expensive as I try to buy in the sales for all of them. Does mean I am storing them for most of the year but you can’t have it always.Saving 1 animal wont change the world - but it will change the world for that 1 animal

Welcome to posting @Duchess2. I think your Christmas sounds lovely. I was a single parent, and having no local family, I often spent Christmas Day with some lovely friends. It allowed my daughter to have fun with other children. The highlight for me was always the afternoon walk when I could enjoy both their company and reconnect with nature. I was a teacher and the lead up to Christmas was a frantic bustle of activity in school. In between Christmas and New year I loved to squeeze in some down days. I still have a busy lead up to Christmas as I am involved in several groups in the community that all have Christmas events, but the actual holiday period is very quiet.

Prudent - we have done this for a few years now. We get loads of volunteers. There is the meal and entertainment and each guest goes home with a bag of treats.

I used to volunteer many moons ago, when I was physically able, and it was wonderful to see so many willing to give up their time and work together to prepare and cook a free Christmas Day meal for others complete with small gift and entertainment - That brings back some nice memories, so thank you for sharing
Well, it's been another frugal day as I've not really been out except a little potter in the back garden for 20-30 minutes because the sun was outand then I had to fight to get through boots to have my Flu Jab. Boots started their Pre-Black Friday Sale today and what a nightmare. People everywhere blocking isles all over thinking their getting a bargain for Christmas
- Obviously not MSE Frugal Board users
I finally managed to list the last of the items in the remaining 3/5ths of a large black plastic bag with only another 9 days of selling off items before I call it finished for the year. The Black Friday Mega Week Sale starts the day after on the 21st (for 10 days?!) and I'm not getting wrapped up with others high stress levels................
I honestly expect things to go even quieter than they already are withthe above, so I'm digging into a jigsaw at night with the idea of gluing it onto a semi-painted canvass. Then I can go between doing part jigsaw and part painting when I need to stand or sit. Hopefully it should burn a couple of hours off the long dark nightsLaugh for TodayRM have updated their mobile tracking App today and yes, here it is with my added comment............Time for a little dinner and jigsaw/painting, so I'll bid eveyone a lovely evening. God bless & toodle-pip for now xxxxxxx~ NSD 2025 - NSD August 0/20 (7 x💯)# Spectos/Royal Mail Monitoring and Posting Panel - Ongoing~ Totally FREE Christmas 2025 - 🎁✉️🏷🎀💐🪪🗒🧺⭐️Completed Challenges 2025:# No.36 Make £2025 in 2025 £1634.34 / £2025 (58%) (3) 💯💯+# No.12 Save £2 a Day 2025 2025: £730/ £730 💯# No.27 Save 1p A Day 2025 £667.95 / £667.95 💯# No.19 52 Week Env Challenge £1378 / £1378 💯# No.34 Save £12k in 2025 £13,429.74 / £12,000 💯 - Continuing13 -
I keep seeing more and more Xmas trees up in peoples houses, I feel like telling them it's November ... i enjoy seeing them but I've decided not to get mine out this year, I will decorate the fireplace, bay window and welsh dresser and that will be it, oh I do have a few quilted bits, x-stitch pictures and red work to put up, oh dear sounds like Xmas minus the tree, definitely not low key!!! I also have a refillable advent calendar for me and I'll buy the dog one lol
I usually go the my youngest dds for Xmas dinner and present opening and them back home to peace and quiet, whilst dds family go to her in-law's, they were the days!!!
I was in Asd@ today doing a little shopping and treated myself to a cheap coffee, I noticed they are doing their soup, roll and drink for over 60's which I used every week when they did it last time, and children eat for a £1 all day, every day and there's a free baby food pouch with any purchase in the cafe. So it may be worth a visit. Needless to say I didn't see the offer until I had bought my coffee and sat down and wasn't offered it at the counter!!!!
That's it for the now.

If anyone needs to buy white T&L granulated sugar, especially with Christmas baking on the horizon, I noticed today that it's 89p in Bee and Em. At that price, it beats any I've found in FF or Iceland.

nannygladys @ the Christmas Tree already up in houses
I don't know why I'm laughing because having decided, like you, we wouldn't get the tree out this year, today my mother decided to get the half miniature tree out, check the fibre optics were working, decorated it, and left it up twinkling away!
I wonder if it's because people are feeling down and need a cheery boost or it's because it's cheaper to put the Christmas lights on in one room rather than an actual light? I'm also wondering if people have alredy made or swapped/purchased their gifts, wrapped them and now need to feel as though it's December.
The atmosphere is very strange at the moment. There's an eerie silence outside with very few birds about or singing during the day or nightly wildlife sounds. There's always an owl hooting at night but not for the past 5-6 days and 2 flocks of Geese flew off today, so I'm thinking they know it's going to snow soon, so we're off to a warmer climate. I haven't seen the swans for 3 days either, so somethings up. The calm before the storm. What's suddenly changed, other than the base rate going down 0.25% along with the temperature droping to 5 and below? It was 1 degree here at 4am yesterday morning - brrrrrrrI've just realised how late it is. Off to bedlum I need to be going.
