@Frugaldom what a price for cheese! I did the 'big burn' of all my old paperwork during a covid lockdown and remember being fascinated by the pay statements.

Frugaldom said:@Prudent I have been searching several times for a decent savings accunt but no luck so far. Found one at 5.5% but it was limited to transferring £250 a month and no lump sum initial pay-ins allowed. Plus, it only pays interest after a year. I really have to ask if it is worth the hassle when being a little bit enterprising could earn more.
DECLUTTERING UPDATE
Just spent a couple of hours burning paperwork and some of it did make me laugh. The year I transferred this moneysaving challenge to MSE was the year I finally managed to clear my feet enough to begin my savings journey so looking back and seeing wages and salaries back then is interesting. In 2001, salary was £13,000 per annum. 2002 the agency I used was paying £5.50 per hour but there was no holiday pay. In 2003, £12,000 per annum and by 2006, returning to Scotland, I was still earning £5.50 an hour in fulltime employment. I have now found a pile of bank statements from 2001 - 2004. Turbulent times, indeed!
I also found an old newspaper clipping from 1999 listing special offers during the run up to the festive season:
Grants whisky - £6.99
Whyte & Mackay - £9.79
Hartley's jam (340g) 2 for £1.80
Mild cheddar cheese (400g) - 2 for £1.25 WOW!
Bird's Eye chicken curry 375g) - 99p
Back to the future - decluttering continues and apple picking hasn't even begun yet. There is someone local advertising for apples as pig food so I suspect that may be where all my windfalls will be going. There are bas of them at home and at Frugaldom but circumstances totally beyone my control have meant running out of daylight hours while travelling back and forth so much. Petrol costs have soared from around £40 a month to almost £40 a week but there's nothing I can do about that at the minute. Needs must.WOW that brought back some memories. I remember cheese and tuna being cheap. Tuna was around 9-11p for a large tin and my then, 3 beloved cats, lived like kings!2Scratters I'm still shifting but it's slowed down over the past 3-4 days, but I expect it to go crazy again in the next few days. I did go out for a walk tonight with gorgeous poochie in tow and dropped off a couple of Yodels at the same time. I do love the option of 24/7 posting as it fits into everyones lifestyle, except when I've hogged the local inpost boxes. I look like I'm moving out in the middle of the night with my large shopping trolly in towI've got 3 bags of decluttered stuff left to go and then slam shut goes the selling doors. Hopefully, all will be gone by the 3rd week of Novemeber as I can't be doing with the crazy stress of December parcel posting.I hope everyone sleeps well tonight and manages to sell or rehome everything they've decluttered xxxxGood night all, keep up the great work & God bless for now xxx

Good for you @Dizzycap, your house will feel much better after all that decluttering. I have to stay in today as the new fridge is being delivered so I am having a declutter too. I have been gifted two large bundles of fabric by two different people. I am a quilter and quilting fabric is expensive so I am thrilled. Some of it the colours or patterns I simply won't use so I am going to pass in on to an arts charity for their workshops. I pulled out my fabric boxes to add what I am keeping and my spare room looks like a bombsite
.
I came on here this morning to fes up though! When I went to open an ISA I realised that it is a fixed rate bond I have maturing this month. The ISA is next month. I feel most guilty after all the help you kindly gave me. I have found a home for the bond fund and begun the process of moving it over. Hopefully the ISA offer will still be there next month.5 -

@Matty246. Yes Its easy but I use it on my phone. Not too sure about on a computer. Try it with just £10 to open and start it off until you get used to it.
I have it as an app on my phone and every morning it pings to say the interest has been added.
Very clear on the front page what your options are, there is a button to deposit funds and a button to transfer any existing ISAs
The deposit allows you to put our account details in and do instant bank transfers
Not tried to withdraw anything yet though7
