Shell Energy cancelling my order on activation date!

Two days before my activation date, I called Shell Energy to ask about my not-received-yet router. All agents reassured me that everything is OK and I might receive it the following day and they would call me back. Next day, I called again. All well, all reassuring, even suggesting me that in case of delay I will be reimbursed for buying a data package. Same day in the afternoon, 1 day before activation, got an email that my order is cancelled! I called immediatelly, they said the dept is closed, they will check and call me the next day. Reassured me again that I will be compensated.
Next day, activation day, and with me not having a connection, both I and my wife working from home and not being able to do our job, I called again and they said that the service cannot be activated due to some openreach problem and that they will not give me any compensation cause the service was never started. As a result, I am and will be with no connection for days if not weeks. Unacceptable! What can I do? Has anyone else been in the same situation?
Thanks.

You can complain, you can I assume move to a more reputable company (you will soon become a TalkTalk customer if you go with Shell).
Does the phone side still work if you had that previously.
In the short term, mobile broadband from your phones would be the immediate answer.0 -
Just curious, was this a switch?0
