Sorry, I wasn’t clear.  During my Father’s lifetime I had a debit card for his current account and used that for the petrol costs with the agreement of both my Father and siblings.  I was literally run ragged with it all at one time, driving 100’s of miles plus when I visited Dad in the care home in the early days he and I would go to lunch and he would pay.  He wanted to pay me for managing his life which quite honestly had turned into a horrible mess, think hoarder, no technical skills so everything on paper and many many bank accounts most of which he had lost track of.  I didn’t think paying me was appropriate.

We agreed in the end  he would pay for all my petrol.  I did try and run things by my siblings I.e when he needed an accountant to fill in his tax return and the costs associated with thst  but they showed little interest and just said do what you need to.

Well if this was money that he spent during his lifetime - not gifts to you - then this doesn't need to go into the estate accounts. His estate consists of the assets/debts he had at the time he died.

I was his only visitor at the care home which unfortunately was a 200 mile round trip.  He wanted to stay local to his old area but in the end it would have been better and cheaper if he had moved much closer to me but it was his choice.  Hindsight is a great thing.

I have over £100k still left to distribute but have been advised to wait at least 6 months from Grant of Probate before making final payments  Siblings know this and that I am using the money in this account to fund my petrol costs.  This £100k will be a 33% split between the three of us.    I have Mum now to look after so thinking perhaps that I need to ask Mum to pay for my petrol.  The three of us are also the only beneficiaries of Mum’s will so thought it doesn’t really matter which parent is paying it.

Mum has enough savings to see her through.  Retirement complex is nearly as expensive as a care home but she really likes it so hopefully we can keep her there.  She has full capacity but is a little forgetful.
