Warranty or not warranty

Asking for comments/advice
Took my Dacia into the main dealers today for a service and its first MOT, it is 3 years old in Jan2024, it has done just less than 8,ooo miles ,i bought it from a local car dealer and they stamped the service book but when i went back to ask them if the oil and filter had been changed they said it will have been but could not physically confirm it as all the books and paperwork were at the accountants but the oil did look brand new.
BUT to be on the safe side i took it to the local Dacia dealer and asked them to service it so i know where i stand in the future ,i also told them that i thought the front brakes were a bit noisy ,the handbrake was coming up more than i expected also the wheel trims ( plastic ) were peeling a bit,it had not been kerbed so no scratches or scuffs.
They rang me later to say the front brakes were noisy and needed stripping ad lubricated.
The back brakes also needed stripping and cleaned and lubricated.
The wheel trims must have been like that because they had ben cleaned with a strong wheel cleaner'
I asked why the brakes should not be repaired under Dacia warranty ( 3 years )  and was told this work is not warranty and the cost to do was approx £250 on top of the £315 i have to pay for the service , oil and filter change, brake fluid change and cabin filter change.

sorry for the long post but i always presumed warranty covered things like brake sticking/ noise etc.
Any answers greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the reply ,i foolishly thought that when a car was serviced they wipped the wheels off to inspect the brakes etc.

Don't get servicing confused with warranty.

Warranties never cover wear and tear - only manufacturing defects.

A three year old car with less than 8,000 miles? The brakes probably need stripping and cleaning because of lack of use. Use the car more.

Surprisingly little is covered truly by warranty when you really drill down into the detail. Most things that wear out on cars tend to be consumables - things like brake pads, clutch plates, bulbs and wiper blades. They get used and wear out rather than are faulty. In this case as has been mentioned if after 3 years the car has only done 8000 miles - then it's likely the brakes would need looking at, as with so little use they'd likely begin to seize up. For your next service I'd be picking a good quality local independent garage personally rather than paying dealer inflated prices.

Remember that the service manager of a dealership has targets to meet.  If he has had a bad month someone has to pay.  He wants his bonus.

You need to be careful there though. I had quotes for a service from two local independents and they were more than the main dealer.

Components such as brakes are how Dacia meet the low price point. Your car has low mileage, but cheap brakes don't like low miles, any water just rusts them away.

We had the same issue with an Aygo, after 3 years and 12,000 miles the front brake disks were falling apart.  More expensive Yaris has had no brake isses in 6 years and it also does 4-5,000 miles a year.

I agree - you have to check the details of what you're paying for....

I could have done it myself and in future i will but with it being under warranty and the garage carrying out the MOT i thought that if anything was wrong on the MOT it would be covered ,the next oil change is in 24 months and will do it myself as well as all other maintenance.
    Thanks for all the replies.

Good plan , I use main dealer for service but mark the parts.
Even if your car can go 24 months between servicing, I personally would never go over 12 months.
For oil & filter that is.
In 3 years my 10 years of service plan runs out.
I will go to my mechanic friend, Only providing quality parts and oil.
Mann filters, mannol oil, Original filters if possible.
On Peugeot filters air are made by Mann , fuel by purflux etc.
