    Well done @CoffeeSonata
Very handy having your car insurance covered before it’s due. I try to do as much of that kind of thing as possible but there often still seems to be those unexpected bills popping up from time to time with all the best will in the world. I’ve heard car insurance premiums are going up considerably this year. Ours is due in April too so fingers crossed it won’t be going up too much
Thank you! I tried really hard, having been monthly a while. Keeping track of due dates frustrated me, and paying more overall to pay monthly. So I was fairly determind.  I had an early warning from my insruance company that costs had risen a lot, and so that we could be prepared, a proposed renewal notice - send much earlier than normal. My renewal is mid-April.  To be followed up with the final proposed quote 30 days before due.
The renewal from my insurance company was with twice the level of excess, and the quote was 136% higher .
I pay £418, the quote was £990 ish.  I had planned that including putting a large-ish (for me) monthly sum away in March and April I would be able to cover a renewal of about £600.  Scrapping together a little more if needed.

I did a early search using comparison sites because I freaked out a little, and thought I'd severely underestimated how much insurance had risen and may not be able to afford annual coverage and monthly payments at that rate would be a push! Found some decent quotes from well known/good insurers between £340 and £500 from well known, good rated  insurance providers, and not with dodgy underwriters that give more cover than I have currently.  Without the crazy high excess and for less.
It's still a tiny bit early for me to renew - a couple weeks to go. But I now know that even without March's standing order to the irregular bils pot, a decent quote from the AA is covered. It's slightly cheaper for a silver /gold premium in my search through quidco insurance / money super market.
So I will do that again when it's time to buy, hopefully the cost will be similar, and hopefully also get the £45 cashback.

Policy is slightly better than what I have currently also.
Of course my curent insurers could be totally out the ball park and scaremongering, so we don't complain at higher quotes and are relieved at anything lower! I will see what their actual final renewal quote is.
But given the AA is actually cheaper for me, with slightly better cover and legal protection, I still think I will probably be switching to AA. My Mum was with the same insurers as me though, and her renewal that's just gone was an 80% increase.
Usually I manage to get my insurnace down £50-90 by contacting them and giving them lower recent quotes, or challenging the increase. My Mum has no success at this this year though. But £50 off £990 is still ...... not possible!

So I'm not holding my breath.
Definitely look around and compare whatever your renewal quote is. I'd avoid any of the super cheap ones and ones underwritten by BSIL.
Friends have had success also contacting NFU mutal for a quote.
(I haven't - they insist on phoning. I'm deaf and cannot use the phone.)

    I hope it goes well!
But yes, the peace of mind and lack of stress in now knowing I can just pay unfront and have covered a decent insurance for the year is magical.

    Todays PAD:

    £1 to ISA.
Which is named 'cruise fund' because I have a fantasy life I fund, and dreams are good. I may be 80 before I get on a cruise, hopefully all environmentally friendly ships by then - but it gives me something to aim for (very) long term and motivate me.
I know it will probably be needed for something else, but it's my little act of hope and rebellion for the future.
