PIP Award Length on Decision Letter

Hi all,

I recently received my decision letter, which states that 'we will contact you while you are getting PIP to see if your needs have changed and to look at the amount you get. This will be after 19 May 2025'. This is in line with the recommendation in my assessment report, which was 18 months. But, at the end of the decision letter, it then states that 'you have been awarded the rate until 19 May 2026.'

Am I missing something or is this just a mistake/typo? I'm referring to the award length in my Mandatory Reconsideration letter, so need to understand it fully.

Thanks in advance

  • With my last few PIPs When it states  "This will be after (date) "  then the renewal forms have come after that date, so the end of award date has to be later date.

When the assessor recommends a review date the decision make will usually add a year onto that. Your review will usually be anytime from a year before. Speaking from personal experience with my current review they contacted me 8 months before my award is due to end. I don't know if it will be the same when your review is due.

They usually add a year on (to the prognosis recommended) and consider it the year during which they look to review your entitlement. (With current delays in the system however sometimes reviews are starting later and going beyond the award date causing then to need to extend by up to another year).

  • Ok, that's really helpful - thank you all 🙂
  • One of mine pre Covid stated not before 27th Jan 18  and the new form was dated 27th Jan 18. So they were correct, just!
