I'm looking forward to the power cut as I have no mobile signal & would need to walk half way up the street to get one. Not a good plan if I need 999.

In the great scheme of things, how often do you have to phone 999 and during a power cut as well.
Not saying that it cant or wont happen and that there's probably more likelihood of an accident during a power cut but I do think that the whole issue of emergency calls during a power outage and rattling on about the "vulnerable" has been overblown by the media.
If you really think that you are vulnerable for any reason then do summat about it and take precautions to mitigate the situation. A battery backup or UPS for instance. Those who really are helpless (rather than hopeless) can contact their their provider to give advice or even in some cases help them out with additional equipment.
In the end we are all responsible for our own actions and wellbeing rather than expecting someone else to run around after you.Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers1 -
The whole point of this thread was, and i can't remember the last time we had a power cut, was within 24 hours of having the switch-over we had a power cut for about 3 hours in the early morning. In Anglo-Saxon language this is called sod's law. Stick that on the charge sheet M,Lud.

Yes lets conpletely forget of course that the networks allow you to make 999 calls on whichever is available but why let facts get in the waybadmemory said:I'm looking forward to the power cut as I have no mobile signal & would need to walk half way up the street to get one. Didn't know you could dial 999 from a mobile with no signal bars. Very comforting to know, every day is a school day here.southsidergs said:

Is that true? How does that work if there is no signal. My friend is on a different network & has no signal here either.

It'll show emergency calls only instead of the network providerbadmemory said:southsidergs said:
