    @bjv The carpet we currently have down was nearly £30 per square metre back in 2005.  I dread to think of the price of a comparable carpet now.  Underlay was £8 per metre.

    I had laminate fitted  in the living room and hall, and carpet in the bedrooms. No furniture was moved out of any room, and there's plenty of it, including a very heavy piano in the smaller bedroom. Skirtings weren't removed and edge trims covered the little gap at the bottom of the skirting.

    That must be pretty top of the range. You can get a pretty decent quality for about £25 m2 even today.

    @Albermarle it was.  It had a lot more wear than expected due to lockdown and my wife working from home.  Constantly walking in and out of one doorway umpteen times a day has had an effect.  Hopefully a really good clean will revitalise the pile and give it a few more years.
