This question about readings is easily resolved if the OP has an online Eon Next account (as I do).
In the meter readings section select "View meter read history"
You should then see an option "Select your meter" (I only have electricity).
The default is my new meter which starts with reading 0 (zero) on the day it was installed.
I can also select my old meter and view the meter read history. The last reading is on the day it was removed (marked as "manual"). The last recorded reading tallies with the photograph I took. There is also a message "Your meter is no longer active" so there is no ambiguity about which is which (although the reading dates also make this obvious).

Luckly i had pictures of the closing readings and basically they didnt included them and they have used these 99*** readings. EON has updated now the bill and it is all back to normal.
Thank you very much all for your inputs1 -

Likewise, I'm very pleased it was sorted. I guess people only post here when bad things happen but this is not the first post I have read when there was a mistake with the readings when a meter was replaced.Reed0
