contract with bt broadband due next week

Hi my contract is due next week and they are taking three months in advance today. I would like to change provider for the first time. do I need to tell them or will the new provider contact them and will bt deal with the refund without my involvement?

If you are outside any minimum term , and migrate using the appropriate process to another provider using Openreach , any days paid for after the changeover are refunded, if you pay quarterly I would think that’s quite unusual , but makes no difference to the refund procedure.
As far as the migration, you contact the new provider and ‘sign up ‘ , they serve notice on your behalf to BT , you don’t independently contact BT yourself, you should receive pretty soon after signing up with a new provider a ‘sorry to see you leave’ notification from BT , so you know the process is underway.
As stated this only applies to Openreach providers, not Virgin or Alt Nets , if you use one of them this ‘gaining provider led’ process won’t apply.
