EDF Direct Debit Monthly Whole Amount Issues!
I’m having an ongoing problem with EDF. I have a smart meter which was installed 3 years ago and has been working fine. I was previously on the monthly direct debit that spread the cost over the year which meant we were often massively in credit and then in debit.
In December 2022 we decided to move to Direct Debit Monthly Whole Amount. This means you get a bill once a month for the energy you use and then you pay the bill. So no credit building up at EDF. We pay for what we use.
Simple right?
Since then EDF have constantly messed up. They don’t bill monthly. They randomly bill every 2 or 3 months. Actually sometimes they do bill monthly. Maybe. Hopefully...
I talk to them on chat and they say there is no fixed date for monthly billing and then say they can ‘generate a bill’ when I kick up a fuss.
It’s a joke.
All I want is one bill every month for the gas and electricity I have used.
Has anyone else had this issue?

No problems here.
In your online MyAccount you should see your next DD and bill dates in the the "Coming up" section of the "My bills and payment" page.
What do YOU see ?0 -
Also with EDF Smart and billed on Whole Monthly DD like you..No problem. I give a reading a couple of weeks before the default DD is due and that generates a billNever pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0

Last time I was with EDF, I had similar problems with their DD whole amount monthly.Eventually I got fed up and switched away to Octopus.N. Hampshire, he/him. Octopus Intelligent Go elec & Tracker gas / Vodafone BB / iD mobile. Ripple Kirk Hill member.

OP ... yes. I'm still on the non-Kraken billing system and it varies between 3 weeks and 3 months, generally it's about every 6 weeks ... and when it looks as though they've got a monthly schedule in place they take an early reading and payment. They even occasionally use their 'budget' regular monthly payment.

I’m having an ongoing problem with EDF. I have a smart meter which was installed 3 years ago and has been working fine. I was previously on the monthly direct debit that spread the cost over the year which meant we were often massively in credit and then in debit. The old system would add your monthly direct debits up and you would appear to be in credit but when the bill was generated, it was only at that point that the usage would be deducted. If that put you into debit then you were not paying enough.Since then EDF have constantly messed up. They don’t bill monthly. They randomly bill every 2 or 3 months. Actually sometimes they do bill monthly. Maybe. Hopefully...They bill monthly on the new Kraken system but when you move from the old one to Kraken, there is an extra bill generated to align you with the right date. All I want is one bill every month for the gas and electricity I have used.Once you are on Kraken, you will get that. They have been phasing people over since earlier this year and it will finish next year.
Whilst on the old system, you must give readings, if not on a smart meter, before the normal billing date.

No problems here with MVDD after a few minor hiccups when EDF moved my account to Kraken. Now settled into a pattern of submitting readings on 25th. Bills appear 24-48 hours later. DD taken around 10th of following month - with an email a few days before to remind me (I assume so I ensure there is the money in my bank account to cover the payment). Runs like clockwork. They have never taken the fallback DD & the bills are always within a few pence of my own spreadsheet calculations - differences due to rounding. Not yet on a smart meter.0

I was with EDF for a couple of years before I switched to Octopus (recently) and was on whole month/variable Direct Debit and never had a problem, it always processed the bill and then made the payment on the same days a few days apart every month. There might be issues at the moment with their migration to Kraken as well, I was on the old system before migration, though when I was on Fixed Direct Debit EDF did seem to do some very odd things with billing periods, some as short as a few days, some a few weeks, then the longest was seven months, going onto variable seemed to fix that though.

We also had issues when trying to go to whole amount monthly with EDF - in our case we had credit on the account to cover the first few bills, but instead of using that credit they took the default amount - which was in turn higher than the amount even which was due to be charged based on readings, and so added to our credit. We took this as a bad sign, and combined with some other issues we were also having with EDF, it prompted us to move to Octopus.🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

Thanks everyone. Glad to see its not just me. I'd never heard of Kraken before, so hoping it gets sorted when moved over.early retirement wannabe0
