"before anyone else had chance to" - why did that person get chance before anyone else? That part isn't right. Everyone should have equal chance imo.badmemory said:The only time I have come across the resentment re holiday booking was when someone used to always book the school holidays before anyone else had chance to when they didn't have children. It was just a tad annoying.
But I don't subscribe to this idea that school holidays should be for workers who have kids or that they should get priority over workers who have chosen to not have or can't have kids.
We don't have kids & my partner has had it said to them (about when we've booked around Xmas time) that workers with kids should get priority at Xmas because 'Xmas is for children'.
Oh I'm sorry, which rule or law book says that Xmas is only for children & once you turn 18 it's no longer any of your business?
Winds me up no end when people play the kids card.2 -
Not forgetting the miserable employee who will try their best to book every date that will inconvenience the most people.
I'm thinking school holidays, bank holidays, Christmas, Easter, Glastonbury Festival and so on.
I've even seen staff try and book one day off each week of school holidays just to prevent fellow workers from taking an entire week off.
'X wants Wednesday off, you can have Mon, Tues, Thurs, Fri but I need you in for Weds because we're short staffed'.
It's just a sad game to some people...0 -

Ah yes this reminds me of those who book Fridays & Mondays for 'the long weekend'.[Deleted User] said:Not forgetting the miserable employee who will try their best to book every date that will inconvenience the most people.

And for those who work a 1 on 1 off Saturday rota.....
When someone books a week off but specify that their last working day is the FRIDAY before, not saying anything to their co-workers & the first their co-workers know about it is when it goes on the calendar which now means said co-workers need to sort out who is going to cover this person's Saturday.
But to add insult to it - person who booked 2 Saturdays in a row later let's slip that they don't actually NEED the first Saturday as part of their week holiday.
I see this one a lot. One person in particular is guilty of it. Did it on every single one of their 4 weeks off. At one point one of the covering guys said I actually need <what's supposed to be my own> that Saturday & then holiday person goes oh its OK I don't need it anyway I just thought I'd take both so I'll work it then.0
