I tried to post on my previous thread about leaving British Gas but for some reason was unable to. I've decided that Octopus sounds like a reasonable supplier so will go with them. However, I don't, for various reasons, want a smart meter - will that cause problems transferring to Octopus? Will the pressure me to have a smart meter fitted?

Worth a read if not 100% accurate

But you really are missing out on 25% off your energy bill.not having one. Can you really afford to pay say £500+ more a year for energy from something you may have read on the internet?

That's a bit harsh in this situation  - the OP has explained their reasons and this is not a tin foil hat scenario by the sound of it!
I agree with you , but of course  MultiFuelBurner is right in respect of the fact that the op is using the internet to ask here.

Just to add I have been with Octopus since February

Most people on here say Octopus have the best customer service, I don't know about that as I have never had to contact them

I give them a reading every month and receive a bill within a few days within a few pence of my spreadsheet calculation

I can and have received refunds, I can and I have reduced my direct debits

I do have a good credit amount that will get me through the winter and I will request a refund in May, I have no doubt I will get it.

I don't have a smart meter and could well be missing out on cheaper tariffs but, I am a very low user so I would't save much anyway

Plus I am happy as I am, no problems no stress

Sorry DCM, I'm not quite sure what the relevance of them using the internet is? They've stated that the issue is anxiety related to people coming into their house - what does the internet have to do with that?

So this must have been a different @MikeJXE then contacting Octopus and then posting on here to say how efficient they were on their response 🤣

    Are you getting forgetful Mike?

I'm with Octopus and my dumb meter is 18 years old and they haven't pressured me
Thanks. I only had a new meter fitted in July due to a gas leak and I hate having people to my property, it causes untold stress due to anxiety issues. So I prefer to avoid upheaval where possible.
I’ve been with Octopus nearly 2 years and highly recommend them. I asked them to fit an Electric meter when I joined and a Gas meter 2 weeks ago to benefit from their Tracker tariffs. They’ve visited my house twice to fit the 2 smart meters but 5 further times to read the meters. Having smart meters is probably more likely in the long run mean Less visits and the opportunity to choose a wider variety of tariffs.

I have an old bellows gas meter and Octopus have never urged me to change to Smart, apart the generic stuff on the app (which every supplier has).  They're great.

    No I'm not that forgetful

I haven't had to contact them with a problem

That was an enquiry and someone on here suggested a bot answered

Lol it was me that educated you on Octobots.

Don't worry they are the friendly autobots not decepticons.

    Pfft semantics

Where does the 25% saving come from, is it by going on the Tracker tariff!
