Will Octopus pressure me to have a smart meter fitted?
I tried to post on my previous thread about leaving British Gas but for some reason was unable to. I've decided that Octopus sounds like a reasonable supplier so will go with them. However, I don't, for various reasons, want a smart meter - will that cause problems transferring to Octopus? Will the pressure me to have a smart meter fitted?

I hope they do because then you will have been pressured to save lots of money on energy 👍2

I'm with Octopus and my dumb meter is 18 years old and they haven't pressured me0

Why would anybody want to pay over the odds for energy by not having a smart meter?1

Only once your meter reaches the end of its certification period.
But unless you're on a … well, I was going to say a great fix or a specialist legacy 'comfort' tariff like Economy 10 or 20:20 to do with heating, but you wouldn't be moving to Octopus if you were - unless you were on one of those type of tariffs, by not having a smart meter you are passing up the opportunity for making some great savings.0 -

You don't have to have a smart meter, but with octopus in particular the best tariffs are only available If you have a smart meter.0

Worth a read if not 100% accurate
But you really are missing out on 25% off your energy bill not having one. Can you really afford to pay say £500+ more a year for energy from something you may have read on the internet?

If you would prefer to pay someone for the privilege of visiting your property occasionally to read your meter. Than that's your choice at the current time.0
