Vent - fallen foul of Vinted SNAD as buyer

I bought an item of clothing from Vinted that clearly stated the size.
When I received the item, it was a size bigger than described.
And it was too big.

I raised a SNAD and the seller has requested a return.

I'm really surprised that I - and not the seller who mis-described the item - have to pay for the return purchase.

TBH, the item was only £2.00 plus the buyer protection and postage and it hardly seems worth it to pay for return postage.
I might just as well relist it.

eBay does it much better.   :(

How was it a size bigger? Did the listing have a photo, with a label label showing (for example) a 12 and the one sent has a label showing it as a 14?

Vinted claim they do not allow business sellers and do not therefore have to allow returns at the sellers cost. However, it is always worth contacting Vinted with proof as there have been some instances where sellers have offered a refund once Vinted warn them about misleading ads.

On Vinted though the sizes are horrible - they use the Far East sizing and insist sellers choose from a drop down menu. So a Medium for instance is a size 10 - this makes things very difficult for sellers as in the UK a medium is often 12/14 and that means they cannot choose the correct size - but then they need to make it very clear in listing that although Vinted say medium is a 10 the label shows 12/14. Ideally they should also show a photo of the label.

One other thing is that if you return then you can't leave feedback. If you keep the item you can leave feedback , but as used to be the case on ebay seller may then give you a retaliatory neg.

It had a photo but the size wasn't shown.
It looks like the photo was a stock one copied from Matalan website.
It was clearly stated in the description:

    high waisted bikini bottoms XL/14
It also said 'worn once' but the size label is faded in places so I don't agree with that description either.

The label in the briefs is 16.

Swimwear and underwear are two things I wouldn't buy secondhand, and I don't buy clothing that doesn't have a size label photographed (if it had, the fading would have told you it wasn't worn once)

On Vinted XL is a 14 - but most sellers would then clearly state in the listing the tag shows 16 . You could also report the selelr for using photos from a web site, that is a big no no on Vinted.

True - but I am where I am.
I took the word of someone who said their item was a size 14 (it wasn't) and who said the item had been worn once (I really don't believe it had, based on the labels of my own swimwear).

I understand that but when the item has been mis-described, I think it very unfair that the trusting buyer has to bear the cost of the return.

I think I will send photos of the label to Vinted and see what they say.
If it turns out that I still have to either pay for the return or accept the item, I will leave negative feedback.
The seller hasn't even apologised for the mistake.
That's the first thing I would have done when a buyer sends a photo that clearly shows my listing was incorrect.

Sizing labels are absolute (accepting the difference between manufacturers).
If the label says it's a 14, then that's what the description should say.
If it had been a size 14 but didn't fit, it would have been my problem.

You shouldn't be able to describe a pair of shoes as a 5 when they are a size 6.

  • This is exactly why I don’t buy on vinted anymore, I don’t think the buyer should have to pay for the return of an mis described item.

    Thanks for this, very interesting.

Completely agree, it's an appalling policy.

I only buy from Vinted if it's via being advertised somewhere else (usually a Facebook group) where at least you can report the seller to admin even if Vinted won't care, or it's an item with lots of good photographs, a good description, and it's something I'm willing to put up with if anything is not being quite right.

Makes one wonder what 'buyer protection' we're actually paying for.
