I'm forever blowing bubbles

I have a feeling that if you look on the science museum site it has a proper recipie. It certainly used to have. You do need to put glycerine (or I think you can use dissolved sugar but need a lot of it) in the mix to stabilise the bubbles. If you get a chance, the bubble show at the science museum is amazing for little ones - the bubbles they blow are huge, and they will also give you all the info you need to make your own mix (though sadly as you can see, you will probably not retain the info for long!)0

Does anyone know how to make bubble mixture for blowing? I've tried diluting washing up liquid without much success. Is there a magic ingredient?
Thanks, Ness.0 -

You can buy value bubbles in tesco for next to nothing if you dont have all the ingredients to make them :beer:2008 WINS £5150.00

Thanks, I will have a little go at the cooking oil, and get some glycerine otherwise. Unfortunately our Tesco is tiddly, so no value bubbles that I've seen.

I'm sure when my kids were young I use to add a spoon of sugar to the washing up liquid and water mix. Mind you I'm prob talking rubbish

It's so easy to make and so much cheaper than even the value stuff. I make it for the children in school every week as we get through so much of the stuff. The secret is not to shake it up. I buy cheapy washing-up liquid and the glycerine is a bottle from the chemist for less than £1. The measurements are:
half a cup washing-up liquid
5 cups of water
2 tablespoons glycerine
Mix carefully, don't shake, best if made the night before too. I store mine in old squash bottles0 -
When I make bubbles for my kids I use loads of washing up water and not as much water, mix til it is like a syrup. Found this best for the bigger bubble machines that you can buy in ELC and other places.Raising kids is like being held hostage by midget terrorists0
