The Canary Islands have a very mild winter, I think a few months in Lanzarote would be most agreeable.

I am 52 and the last two winters I have really suffered from the cold, to the extent that its a miserable time for me , I need to find a solution for next year.

Where could I go that is warm, quiet and peaceful and live very cheaply and minimally for a month or two ?

Loads of places in many parts of the world.

SE Asia, India/Sri Lanka, Lots of Africa, Large parts of Latin America.

As a rule, Africa is rather expensive.

I have spoken to people who spent the winter months in Cyprus although you will now be limited to 90 days in 180.  They said accommodation was cheap and the place they stayed did have a restaurant where food was also inexpensive.  Probably better to ask questions on Tripadvisor boards specific to destinations of interest.

The point is that we used to be able to travel to and stay in EU countries for as long as we wanted. We can no longer do this.

2016 I spent 18 months in Puerto Rico Gran Canaria, I was 76 years old then

It was never cold, sometimes a bit hot in summer, warm rain if you get any and gone in seconds, odd sand in the air from Sahara

No one wears trousers any time of year, food was cheap, no heating bills, plenty of entertainment, excellent beach, sometimes get cockroaches

Bus service was excellent, excellent medical services

And as far as I can see, a UK citizen would not be able to spend 18 months in Gran Canaria these days.

I commiserate with you. The last couple of years the cold and dark in the winter has really been annoying me.

We can't go abroad for a prolonged period because of caring responsibilities and dogs, but find a sunny break in November and another in January / February helps.

The Canaries are the most obvious and readily accessible spots.  I've only been to Cyprus once long ago, but that was February and our hotel was full of older British people who were there long-term.

Thats true without a visa now but 90 days out of the cold is a good chunk of our winter

Yes, 90 days is decent out of a UK winter. Just not as good as it was. I don't call that progress.

During my years of living and working in Southeast Asia I made regular trips to the UK, where people often thought I was a bit mad if I remarked on how much I enjoyed the cold rainy weather, but it was a welcome respite from the heat and humidity. Everything is relative...
By chance I've just started listening to the latest in Dr Micheal Mosley's excellent series of 'Just One Thing'  - 'Cold Therapy'. Quite interesting:
