Company unable to give me a refund until I pay more?

Hi
I've got an ongoing issue with a solar company that says "Well the refund isn't going through Sage because it says that there's x amount more needed and then when we get x, we'll send it through"
And at this point, I feel like going to the energy ombudsman given I don't think it should be this painful to have to get a refund. I'm not sure why they think I should have to pay more to get that money back anyway.
Surely they could talk to Sage and just give me back the money that I'm owed?
Thanks

Way too little information for anyone to advise you properly. Which company? What service? What's the refund for?waqasahmed said:Hi

You mention Sage. Is this a personal transaction, or a business one?0 -
in general I would be wary of anyone wanting extra money in order to process a refund2

"Sage" is probably the accounting software/system they are using. I doubt this would prevent a refund. Seems a bit odd to me.
Kind Regards,

I've had a refund automatically rejected by a (similar) finance system before... but it was when the amount of the refund exceeded the total payments on the account (due to a mistake in the calculation).Billxx said:"Sage" is probably the accounting software/system they are using. We would need more detail from the OP as to what the refund/outstanding amount was for in order to comment more usefully.I'm not an early bird or a night owl; I’m some form of permanently exhausted pigeon.0 -
Sounds like a scam. No sensible company is going to ask you to pay more money in order to get a refund. Who is the company? Have you checked them out properly?waqasahmed said:Hi

It's a solar company for installation of a Givenergy system. The refund is because they kept promising install dates on x date and never showing up. It's a personal transactionAylesbury_Duck said:

That still seems to be a very heavily truncated version of events - is this a refund of all the money you've paid, because it's now clear between the parties that the job isn't going ahead, or is this some sort of goodwill gesture, i.e. knocking a bit off the bill to recognise some inconvenience, but the job is still going ahead?waqasahmed said:It's a solar company for installation of a Givenergy system.
